Wonderful Machine
I purchased this for my wife who is interested in quilting. The work space is perfect. Bernina quality is in every feature. Some complain that they have trouble using it, but if they would slow down and pay attention to the manual or even watch instructional videos online, they could see that everything is intuitive and makes perfect sense. Threading and sewing is very easy. Stitches are perfectly formed. The 830 is solid and stable. It has the feeling of quality and of being the substantial machine that it is. Bernina 830 Computerized Sewing Quilting and Emboridery Machine with BSr
When I opened the box and saw how large this was I was taken back. This is a great machine but it is not for beginners. I have another Bernina 440E so I was familiar with some of the features. However, the automatic needle threader did not work properly and had to be repaired. This was probably because of the shipping distance from the west coast area. It took some time to adjust to this 830, and especially all the bells and whistles it came with. The stitches are beautiful and as a quilter I love the extra space between the needle back to the throat. It is great for making large quilts and travel duffle bags. It took some time for me to stay that I love it, but I had to be honest and give myself time to get over the learning curve period. I would recommend you do your homework first on this and watch all the you tube videos that you can find. Bernina quality with all the bells and whistles
If you want a high quality, flexible machine, this is the one to look at first. We looked at machines from Pfaff, and Viking/Husqvarna also, but feel, from our experience with Bernina, that Bernina is better. My wife has been sewing with Bernina machines for more than 30 years. She still has her first Bernina, and it still works beautifully. She can still get parts for it also, just in case. Bernina machines are reliable, efficient, last a long time if maintained properly, and user friendly. When my wife's passion for embroidery and quiltmaking outpaced her machine's capabilities, we looked at the upper end Bernina models, and found that the 8 series machines were up to the task at hand. We realized that a NEW Bernina 8 series would cost the same as a new small car! You have to justify buying one far beyond just sewing and a bit of embroidery. So what would the machine have to do to make it worth the money? Turns out it does just about everything. Depending on model, it has enough built-in stitches to decorate any piece of sewing you want to do. And, with the optional (expensive) embroidery module, you have a powerhouse combination. The 8 series also includes productivity aids that have been developed in previous models, but continue to set the standard. We didn't justify buying a new one, but we did find a used one that had low stitch count and hours used at a reasonable price. Durable, easy to use, mechanical machine.
I wanted a mechanical machine with accessories and sized for quilting larger projects (lap, twin and full size quilts). I am only half-way through the piecing process of my first quilt with this machine, but, have practiced some free motion quilting on it. Bernina is the best
When the machine arrived it had some damage. Not sure if it was from the shipping or was already broken so I had no choice but to pay $$$$ to get it serviced and repaired. It is not an easy machine to use, but it is all and more than I had hoped for once I knew it was in good repair and I paid for some training. The place to go for Berninas!
I am thrilled to pieces to have gotten this very special Bernina at this price! First off, we had gotten another Bernina from this dealer and it runs like a top! I am so excited to have gotten the 830 LE, especially at that price! This dealer goes over these machines with a fine tooth comb and they are in perfect shape. The packing of them is fantastic, and they arrive safely. And this dealer also supports these machines, and if you need help, they are there for you. Very well made, no plastic parts.
This is an "old" machine, well made with steel gears and bearings. The belts wear (loose teeth) and must be replaced, and the origonal foot control is fragile. It a machine does not work at all, the foot control is the most likely suspect. But better belts are now available and foot control units are available (aftermarket, not Bernina) for much less money that work well.
