Product Information
The story of the famous Kursaal Amusement Park at Southend-on-Sea is told for the first time in a new book released on 11 April 2003: Kursaal Memories: A History of Southend's Amusement Park . The Southend Kursaal was the largest amusement park in the south of England for much of the 20th Century, and was well known across Essex and East London. This book tells the story of the Kursaal, from its origins in the late 19th Century, to its closure in the 1980s, and its re-opening in the 1990s. Author, Ken Crowe is Keeper of Human History at Southend Museum. A well-known local figure, he is an enthusiastic researcher of Southend's history and has written several books on the subject in the past. Now he presents this 112-page work, offering a fascinating collection of 160 photographs, many in print for the first time due to his unrestricted access to the Kursaal Archive. The book was launched at the Kursaal itself on Thursday 17th April 2003, and Ken was on hand to give a special talk on the Kursaal's history. Also in attendance at the launch was Alan Stack, the Managing Director of the Rowallan Group, which owns the famous landmark, and Southend's Mayor, Councillor Alan Crystall. There was also a chance to buy copies of the book and have them signed by the author, and there was an exhibition celebrating the history of the Kursaal.Product Identifiers
