I read this book in my youth and it's always stuck with me, so much so, I bought it again recently to reread. As clichéd as it sounds, the author has that unique talent to paint scenes with words. Im not sure I've 'seen' a story as clearly as I have with this one. The story follows a teenage girl who believes herself to be the last person alive on earth after a nuclear holocaust... Until she spots a lone male figure making their way into the valley after nearly a year. You feel her fear, and potential excitement, as the figure approaches over a period of days. The outcomes after hearing the chaos over the radio during the last days of life outside the valley, could spell ultimate danger, a fight for resources, and even life. The looming, cumbersome figure, is clearly a man bigger than her. Is he friend or foe?!

  • Not bad for teenage fiction.

The girl "heroine" is too gullible.
