Bigger, Heavier, More Expensive, With Over 20 Pages of Menu Settings
I own a Sony DSC-RX100, the first of the line, and I do not see a substantial upgrade in the DSC-RX100IV. The main difference is that the menu has sprouted at least 20 extra pages of non-essential features. As far as I can tell, it is the same lens, but I have to dig deeper to control what ought to be up-front settings like White Balance. As an old-school shooter, I really prefer the simplicity of the older models.
Here is what I like about the new model: The LCD is jointed so that it can be held at an angle, the lens ring seems looser, The DISP menu is comprehensive about settings.
On the other hand, it is bulkier and heavier. It has a built-in optical viewfinder, but I never did figure out how to set the diopter so that I could get a clear picture from it. Also, it is unnecessary.
Both models take wonderful pictures! It is amazing to have a pocket-sized camera that will take excellent shots.
