About this product

Product Information

On a hot summer day, what could be more refreshing than slipping into the cool, clear waters of a secret lake? And what could be more magical than plunging into a hidden waterfall pool? Britain's rivers, lakes and waterfalls are now cleaner, safer and more accessible than at any time in living memory. To celebrate, award-winning author, jungle explorer and ex-hostage Daniel Start set out to find Britain's favourite swimming holes and has discovered that the art of taking a wilderness dip is far from lost. Wild Swimming provides all the practical information you need to enjoy 150 magical swims across the UK - with or without the kids or car - and combines them with ideas for that perfect summer day out. Through this great British tour you'll be able to swim with otters in Dartmoor, go river-rafting in Yorkshire, night-swim under the stars and learn how to build a woodland sauna. Discover the famous wild swimmers of the past and read stories of heroes, lovers and ordinary folk who have long enjoyed a natural dip under the willows. Adopting a similar format to the popular Cool Camping series (also from Punk Publishing), Wild Swimming combines inspirational photos, engaging writing and practical information to make this a truly unique British travel guide. Pick up, strip off and jump in!

  • Somewhere to swim

This seems a nice book. Maybe one just for the coffee table / armchair enthusiast or for those with an adventurous spirit keen to get out into nature instead of chlorinated pools. I bought this as would like to swim in the open but not sure of suitable unrestricted places to do it. Haven't tried any of the swims yet but then these are far and wide-spread throughout Britain. The book is well set out and the information on finding, and the characteristics / conditions of the swims seems clear - they are graded. Photos with every description are enticing however, I think I might invest in a wetsuit- the water looks cold!
