    easy to use

purchased for filling gaps around waste pipes due to rat/mouse eating the expanding foam, very pleased with quality for the price feels like it will last. perfect for the job I bought it for and now used for some pointing. you will need to make quite a dry mortar mix as the water is squeezed out first when you start so if don't want to wiping mortar water up make you mix a bit dry. would recommend

  • Most critical review

OK, if you get mix right and wash/clean constantly.

Fiddely to load, overspill regularly going onto the external mechanism, Despite using mortar with plasticiser, the unit seemed to drain/squeeze the fluid out, making it impossible to use full length of mortar. Not easy to clean after.

  • Time Saving Tool

I bought this tool to complete some grouting between flagstones on my drive. I had tried using a trowel to apply the mortar inside the gap between the flagstones but I found that it was very difficult not to get the mortar on the surface of the flagstones which stained them. This tool enables you to be able to insert the mortar right into the bottom of the gap which can later be finished off using a curved edge, (I used a piece of broom handle). The only thing that is critical is the mortar mix, I found this to be trial and error but when you have the correct mix it really makes light work of what can be a right chore.

  • Roughneck Mortar Gun

I bought this to point up some slab work. It did take a little while to get the mix correct The key ingredient in the mix is the plastersizer. Once i got the mix correct it worked brilliantly!! It saved me hours of labour and it's keeps the slabs from getting mortar all over them. The mix I used was 3 shovels of building sand to one cement and put the plastersizer in your bucket/water can. then mix as normal until you get a very smooth lump free mix. you may need to add a little more water/plastersizer to each gun full to make sure it flows freely. Superb bit of kit. Highly recommended

  • Could be a really good item, but...

I bought this for a specific use, to grout a couple of fireplaces. The item looked the part, but tripped on first use, when it was apparent there is a design/materials flaw. The plastic plunger washer is too flimsy and splits easily losing pressure and allowing the grout to ooze out the back. A home made solution was to add 2 metal washers almost as big a diameter as the plunger washer, this cured the problem and grouting was far faster with the altered tool, than previously without it.

  • Mortar gun..

Excellent gun. Ive got no issues with it, whatsoever. I was, at first, a little concerned about the plastic screw caps but I can honestly say that they are up to the job that I require of it. How long the plastic caps will last, remains to be seen, but, overall, I'm more than happy with it.

  • Great if you get the mix right.

Very good a pointing brickwork and slabs. BUT, you need to get the mix right. Too wet and it pours out, too dry and it sticks and blocks. Great tool with good range of accessories.
