Product Information
This text treats measurement as a coherent and integrated subject by presenting it as the study of measurement systems. Divided into three parts, the book discusses: general principles; characteristics and applications of typical sensing, signal conditioning, signal processing and data presentation elements in wide current use; and specialized measurement systems which have important industrial applications. This third edition had been extended and updated to reflect developments in technology since the publication of the second edition in 1988. It contains material on two port networks and the basic principles of reliability and maintainability, including information on failure rate data models. The section on current transmitters has also been updated to include material on intelligent or smart transmitters. Developments in microcomputer and increased use of high level languages are examined, and examples given of how signal processing elements perform steady state and dynamic compensation calculations. There is also new material on: optical interferometers, ultrasonic pulse reflection systems, and communications systems and protocols. Each chapter is divided into section, the topics covered are introduced at the beginning and reviewed at the end. Basic equations are highlighted and a number of references given at the end of each chapter. These should provide useful supplementary reading. This book is primarily aimed at students taking modules in measurement and instrumentation as part of degree courses in instrumentation/control, mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, electronic, chemical engineering and applied physics. Much of the material should also be helpful to lecturers and students involved in HNC/HND courses in industrial management and control; and to professional engineers and technicians engaged in solving practical measurement problems.Product Identifiers
