About this product

Product Information

Jocasta Innes shows that delicious and stylish cooking does not have to rely on expensive ingredients and that budget food does not mean simply opening a tin or a packet. Thrifty tips on sensible shopping, using leftovers and creating home-made versions of store-bought favourites help to cut the costs at every stage. More than 250 international recipes, including soups, puddings and vegetarian meals, ranging from quick snacks to impressive party dishes, will suit every occasion and guarantee the tastiest results at the cheapest cost. First published in 1971, this well loved kitchen classic has been totally revised and updated to take into account the ever-increasing range of low-cost ingredients now available in local supermarkets.

  • Excellent recipes!

This is an older, paperback book by the great Jocasta Innes. The recipes , in my opinion, are way above average and are not really written for those who are truly broke, as some cookbooks rightly are. It is for those who are on a limited income and need to eat economically but are willing to splash on a few extra bits and pieces here and there. I have earmarked quite a few recipes already. The only one I've made, so far, a cheese, onion and potato bake, was utterly delectable! It's going to be a regular at our house. I like the way the instructions are written - friendly and clear and not too wordy. There aren't any illustrations at all and the book is the size of a paperback novel. I think it is well worth buying, however.
