About this product

Product Information

All over the world there are fantastic ruins and improbable objects which cannot be explained by conventional theories of history, archaeology, and religion. Why, for instance, do the world's sacred books describe Gods who came down from the sky in fiery chariots and always promised to return? How could an ancient Sanskrit text contain an account which could only be of a journey in an alien craft? Compare photographs of American space centre launch sites to the constructions on the plains of Nazca in Peru. In order to understand the mysteries which Erich von Daniken has catalogued we must go back to these ancient relics with an open mind. We must call in the resources and experience of sciences other than archaeology. Chariots of the Gods is a provocative attempt to explain some of the universe's most interesting mysteries.

  • Chariots or what?

The author has obviously carried out considerable research and much of what he says makes sense and is otherwise unexplained. Where I do have a problem is that he has a tendency to reject some scientific and historical findings out of hand yet readily accept others where they suit his point of view. Nevertheless overall it provides fascinating food for thought.

  • Still a great read after all these years

I've loved this book since I was a kid. It was written in the days when people still went on expeditions to find the Yeti, when young minds were full of wonder and possibilities of lake monsters, abominable snowmen and alien beings visiting us from far away in outer space. I bought this book specifically to wind up my sour faced cynical sceptic friend, who gets a wee bit over-angry about such matters. I'm like "chill mate, get a girlfriend", it's only a book, and one which filled my young head full of stars, and I hope it continues to do so for kids all over the world for generations to come. Keep watching the skies!!!

  • Excellent read, wish it was longer!

I had to get this book as I enjoy watching Ancient Aliens. There is lots of books out there in regards to ancient astronaut theorists, however I thought that it would only be fair to read one of the first published books. It's a genuine once you start reading it you don't want to put it down.

  • Brilliant!

Brilliant piece of work if, you are interested in the most world changing subject in human history. Like all investigations Eric starts with the admittance of mistakes in his earlier work but still uncovers so many unanswered questions throughout. I'm surprized the evangelic churches didn't have a special book burning session. We have never been alone. Just ask the U.S.A Department of defence and the Pentagon.

  • Too vague.

First published in Great Britain 1969. How come I read a paperback in 1963 title Was God An Astronaut, I bought this title out of curiosity and found that it was mostly word for word the same book...curious. All so challenging and believable!!!

  • Dated but excellent.

A very interesting book but now out dated theories. It will open your mind to alternative ideas about the world's past and shows that there is much we cannot explain.
