About this product

Product Information

A simple programme guaranteed to maximise your child's development potential. After thirty years of working as one of Britain's leading language therapists, Dr Sally Ward has discovered the three factors that are directly responsible for the development of a child's ability to speak- and, more importantly, has developed a programme for controlling and using these factors to maximise a child's learning curve. Background noise, the amount of time a parent spends talking to the child, and the way in which a parent speaks to a child are the basis of the BabyTalk programme, which, over the last seven years, had had results beyond her wildest dreams.Children who had gone through the programme accelerated their language and comprehension skills at least a year beyond their age, and because the BabyTalk programme doesn't just affect a child's verbal abilities, participation also resulted in a dramatic increase in their IQ.A ground- breaking book that represents the most important research into childcare and development.

  • I can't recommend this book enough!

This book is written by a UK speech and language therapist and wow does it deliver. It guides one through what to say (follow the child's focus of attention) and what not to say (don't whoop and cheer, or ask questions unless you don't know the answer) to encourage your child reach their maximum potential with speaking and (I think) listening. The book starts from how to talk to very small babies, but the author says that if you start later, just find the chapter which is closest to your child's current level. The developmental toy recommendations have all been hits too. The only points I'd add is that the book recommendations inside are a bit out of date and I felt often they were too basic for the age level. Also, guidance on typical age vs. speech ability gives examples that show an advanced speech level for the child's age. - I thought that my two year old was a bit behind on speech only to be told by a UK health visitor at my child's 24 month old review that her talking was extremely advanced! I love this book and still have it by my bedside to guide me on how to talk to my little one now that she is two and a half. Highly recommended!
