The Norton Shakespeare
Obviously there is no point in commenting on Shakespeare, and I have not had time to look at the content in detail, but initially it seems superb value, especially second-hand and in good condition as my copy was. There are plenty of notes to explain difficulties and I like the typeface. Maybe the paper being necessarily very thin might bother some people and a paperback of this size would always need careful handling to avoid damage. Good, practical presentation and guide to Shakespeare and his writings.
Well, it's Shakespeare, and published by Norton, who are known for their excellent presentations and critical commentary, so it's a good edition. Very thick book, with perfect binding and very thin pages. Unavoidable unless they were willing to publish it in at least two volumes, and we were willing to pay for them.
