A new edition of this proven comprehensive resource aimed at teachers and youth leaders this is an ideal introduction for those called upon to teach the subject with little or no previous experience. It provides all that is needed to start a performance team with 10 maypole dances, a ribbon dance and 12 country dances which can be done in the round, without taking down the maypole, meaning the audience can join in the celebrations. Suitable for dancers aged 5 to 85! The book includes not only advice on preparations and detailed instructions for each of dances, its also contains some general background information on the history of the dance forms and extra notes about each of the dances. The text is interspersed with photographs and diagrams to enhance the written instructions. A selection of tunes is provided in the book for those able to call on the services of a musician but for those requiring recorded music, there is an accompanying CD which includes music for the full repertoire. The new edition contains an extra section of instructions for making your own Maypole based on a design thought to date back to the early 20th century. The author is currently the National Education Officer of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, a qualified teacher and a dancer of may years' experience.
