About this product

Product Information

There is truly no other curry book like this one. The recipes are not the traditional cuisine practised by Indians at home but the distinctive and well-loved variety served in Indian restaurants worldwide. Since its first publication nearly twenty years ago The Curry Secret has been a bestseller. It has grown, by word of mouth and reader recommendation, into a cult classic - it has even spawned internet forums where readers rave about the sauce. Following requests from those readers, Kris Dhillon has now updated the book to include a wider choice of dishes and brand new recipes for even more mouthwatering curries as well as all the established favourites. From Chicken Tikka Masala to Onion Bhajee, Aloo Gobi to Lamb Biryani, everyone's favourite is here. Praise from readers: 'Truly an excellent book and one that any Indian restaurant fan who enjoys cooking should have' 'The Holy Grail of curry cook books' 'This book is so good it's unbelievable'

    The curry secret

I think this is the ultimate book for the basis of creating your culinary curry desires I have experimented many of the recipes and techniques delivered by the author from this book and find it just as good as going to my local Asian restaurant time factors are important and more so are the ingredients that need to be fresh to make a good dish, it takes time but delivers the overwhelming results you will not be disappointed.

  • Most critical review

    Terrible!

As a fairly competent cook and someone who has spent years cooking curries from scratch or otherwise I found the base curry recipe in this book is incredibly bad. I spent ages following the recipe to the letter only to end up with an insipid and relatively tasteless sauce. If you like really good tasting curries try the Spice is Right website. Their curries are amazing.

  • Great book for yummy easy to make curries

I bought this copy for my Mum as I have found the same book can make some really yummy curries! I usually adapt the recipes to make them vegan which is fairly easy, just need to adjust the cooking times. I would also recommend reducing the amount of salt and oil stated in each recipe. Be careful with units in this book, a cup size is not consistent between recipes, I always use ml and they have turned out ok.

  • Best curry recipe book ever!

I only bought this as a replacement to my old copy as I have worn it out and it's falling apart. If you're an old hand or new to making curry, this has to be an essential book. Forget taking short cuts and using proprietary sauces, this takes a tad longer but initial preparation can be done in advance but results are superb.

  • That's the way to do it!

There is a lot going on here. If you just want to make a very occasional curry, this is a very long `winded way of going about it. But if, like me, you now make a point of always having a goodly supply of the basic curry sauce in the freezer, then making a good curry is a breeze! This book sets out how to reproduce restaurant style curries, and so I didn't expect to find much about vegetables. This is regrettable IMHO, but to be expected. I am very pleased to have this book and have tried several recipes already, with great success. Enjoy!

  • Good book

Not long received the book so haven’t yet tried any of the recipes but have read over the book and it is well written, easily understood and the recipes appear easy to follow.
