Good Value
The printer, first off, for being what it is: a thermal printer, fast, roll-fed printer, creates good results. I already gave the 4 stars for the product, so you know it's pretty good, so let me skip to the few hiccups I have encountered - keeping in mind I still rated it with a 4-star rating in retrospect.
The driver: Using OS X on a Mac, I couldn't use the first driver I found. It just didn't work. The next one I found did the trick. A little trial and error, and about 30-minutes of messing around.
The Print Head: I purchased a used unit that had only been fed 5-inch roll paper for 5"x7" prints, therefore, the print head never extended to what the 6-inch roll required. Result? If you want 4"x6" prints, you're going to have a heavy set of lines about an inch from the end of the print. The lines look like almost scratches. It's a shame, because you can get about 600 pictures out of a 6-inch roll for 4"x6" prints, and less out of the 5-inch roll. Work around? I can print 4"x6" prints with a border on the print which is large enough to avoid an impact to the print. You'll still see the lines if you look carefully. The replacement head is expensive; just under USD$500. This is 5 times what I paid for my used unit + shipping.
Build: The overall build of the machine is pretty good. Internally, as many reviews have stated, I'm pretty sure the door used to come down by itself in a cool-smooth motion when it was new. Now, I have to help up open with a little extra pressure with my hand after pressing the open button. I guess it's better than having no resistance at all, and having the door just slam down. The green ink-roll holder doesn't feel like a real 'snap-fit' when you install it for use. Actually, while closing the door, I can sometimes see it droop down a bit, but once the door is closed, I think the door, or the paper roll, keep it firmly in position. I thought this was a concern, however, I have never had any difficulties as a result of this.
I was able to buy this unit for about $100, including shipping, and with $100 for paper/ink, I used this for printing as many 4"x6"s from a home-made photobooth for my kid's birthday parties. Hundreds of prints, with no oversight, and it worked flawlessly.
