    Underrated Bargain,...hence Cheap!!

Light, even with MB-16. Really just a baby F100. Not quite the build quality, but does everything an F100 can do, including built in diopter, at a third the cost. Plus it has a pop up flash. Best thing and worse thing is viewfinder. The auto light up focus points in day or night are a combo of an F100 and F5. However,....viewfinder coverage is 92%. (F100 is 96%, F4/F5 is 100%) Either way, ...better than a point and shoot. And, yes, an N80 is exactly the same camera.

Love Nikkon just not this one

Unfortunately the person that sold this camera was less then truthful. There were many unrepairable elements on the house. The lens also had damage. The automatic options were unrepairable. Ended up purchasing a new Nikkon.

  • Nikon F80 used (as brand new) camera

I have bought this Nikon F80 mint condition body with strap and with original japanese user manual. A great brand's excellent SLR film camera. This body was used for Nikon's new digital cameras as well, so it has a lot of late functions of it. Actually this is a simpyfied F100. All in all it is really a great device with excellent picture quality and rich comfort functions. I love it!

  • Best "disposable" Nikon for cheapskates!

Only two things lacking on this camera body, 1) the aperture feeler tab that allows Ai and Ai-S lens to work and 2)1/2 stop exposure compensation rather than 1/3. It works with manual focus lenses that have been retrofitted with the Dandelion chip and gives you 3D Matrix metering-- on Ai'd lenses work out your exposure compensation f-stop by f-stop on a digital body to deal with the pre Ai linear aperture curve and apply your findings in aperture priority mode for perfect exposure. And if your N80 breaks, buy another good working body to replace it! I roll my own b&w, set it on spot metering and shoot Zone all day: happiness for peanuts! Spot on exposures for color print in priority mode, buy a cheapo SB-50DX flash and get the same dead on exposures in full flash or fill.

  • N80 - the best kept secret in film photography.

Though it isn't as well known as some of it's stablemates, the Nikon N80 is one of the best deals for automated, autofocusing 35mm cameras. With Aperture, Shutter, Manual and Program modes, the N80 is easy to use in just about any situation. The autofocus is reasonably quick and the autoexposure is easy to use to get perfectly exposed shots. The only negative I've found with any of the four N80's I've owned is the well known "sticky back" problem that Nikon had with various cameras of this period. It's an easy fix with some armor-all automotive treatment if not too bad or some goo-be-gone for a bad case of stickiness. There is too much to this camera to do it justice in one short review. Let me just say as a film camera user that i really like this Nikon.

  • Nearly the equal of the N90s

I picked up a lightly used N80 mostly because I wanted something lighter and smaller than my N90s. Thus far i am very pleased with the results. The auto focus and metering are outstanding (par for the course for Nikon), the built in flash does not seem to pop up at inopportune times (Like my EOS Rebel ti), and the LCD display on both the top of the camera and in the eyepiece is easy to read and informative. The LCD illuminator is a very useful feature as well. Since I am well acquainted with my other Nikon AF, I figured most of the features on THIS camera would be intuitive - they aren't. I strongly recommend going through the instruction manual start to finish, and then go through it again. If you don't you will not be able to use all the features of this camera, particularly the pre-programed custom features. The one feature I truly dislike on this camera is the AF area selector button, which is too small and not always easy to engage. That said, this is a high quality Nikon, with more bells and whistles than most people will even need. If you want to shoot IR film, or want an extremely high flash sync speed, then this camera is not for you, but for nearly everyone else, this camera will give you excellent results.

  • N-80 review.

Just purchased this item as a backup 35mm film camera, knowing Nikon's reputation for functional quality, and user-friendly controls. Ranking with ease of use, and valuable features that make it rank with the F-100, and the Prosumer F-4, without the high cost, and demand those two offerings generally have. Most film users will never need the functionality of the later two mentioned, so any of N-80series will suffice to deliver the performance you desire, providing you steer clear of the G-series AF Nikon-Nikkor lenses. But the D-series, or the AF-S lens rather. One durable, functional, film camera. Thank you for your time and attention.

  • Nikon F80D

When i received this i was astounded by the condition, first rate and the speed at which the auto focus reacted. This for me is the best SLR i have ever used, i read someone once said that the camera was too light and had no depth of field preview ???, but i found this to be a camera you could carry around all day, never noticing it was thereand the features are endless, a top notch camera that i absolutely love.

  • Nikon N80--Neato camera!

A neat , light 35mm. makes a great backup or even primary. Downside for me is not having the use of my Ai,Ais lenses. Works beautifully with the cheapo 28-80mm. If you've evrer used a dslr, then this is an easy-peasy camera to use. A great buy in an easy to use package.

  • Amazing Bargain

When I purchased my first auto focus body (an N90s) back in the early 90's, this camera was going for $399. This year, I decided to start shooting B&W film and I found one of these on ebay for $15 because it was 'untested'. It works perfectly so that makes this body hands down the best $15 I have EVER spent on photography! The body is light but still has a built-in drive motor so you can use older lenses which will save you even more money. It has a full feature set and at the time only the F100 and F5 were more advanced in Nikon's lineup. The camera is very compact so it's easily carried all day and feels good to almost all hand sizes. The controls naturally fall under my fingers and if you're familiar with Nikon's control set from any of their SLRs or DSLRs you'll feel right at home. The exposure has always been excellent with print film and it will do 3D matrix metering with D lenses. The only shortfalls in my book are the slow flash sync speed (1/125) and that it uses 123 size lithium batteries. You can get the external battery grip and use AA's which adds bulk, but no vertical shutter release, so for me that's not a trade-off I'm willing to make. One thing to watch out for is the dreaded sticky grip! The clear rubberized coating put on the body to enhance grip can degrade over time and become a sticky mess. I cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol and some very well used green (less abrasive) scotchbrite but it can be off-putting and you should expect to spend some time at it. Overall, these bodies are great bargains that are light and compact while still being accurate, and having enough control that you can do essentially anything you want with your photography.
