Magi-Nation is an adventure game featuring lots of exploration and collection. As in the ubiquitous Pokémon games for the Game Boy Color, one of the objects of Magi-Nation is to gather the allegiances of various Dream Creatures, magical monsters that must be sought out and bested in combat before they will lend their abilities to the player. Magi-Nation also features special relics, which can augment the abilities of different Dream Creatures in different ways. With only one of each special relic per game, players may want to put some thought into which magical item should be paired with which allied creature.<br><br>One innovative aspect of Magi-Nation is the move to a simpler system of "character resources." Just one number represents all of a character's power at any given time. All actions, be they attacks or defenses, magical or physical, rely on the same single pool of character energy points. By simplifying the representation of character resources, it is easier to instantly recognize and relate to all the other creatures in the game. There is also the need for more sophisticated strategic planning, however, as all of a character's actions draw from just one limited power reserve.<br><br>In addition to many varied environments to explore, hidden treasures to uncover, quests to complete, and Dream Creatures to befriend, Magi-Nation includes a large number of non-player characters who help to advance the plot. Many of these NPC's have distinct personalities and some will offer valuable advice, while others may be worth engaging simply for their entertaining comments. Every conversation and player decision could be crucial, however, as the game offers several different endings dependant on the way that the player chooses to make his way through the magical world.
