  • Fantastic Album

As well as being a really good album and being great value for money, this "Best Of" The Creation is also very interesting. It's another one of those albums that I purchased for nostalgic reasons. I remember The Creation when I was a kid and first getting into music. They were very "Who-like" with a very distinctive sound and this album doesn't disappoint. Firstly, the tracks are spread over two CDs, so there is no overkill of having 28 or more tracks on one CD, as seems to be the norm these days for sixties band reissues. The discs consist of the band's output from 1966-68 and recordings from 1987 and 1996. There are various line-up changes along the way and some of the tracks feature none other than Ronnie Wood. What makes this album really interesting for me is that not only have you got some great tracks from 66-68, for example "Making Time" and "Painter Man," but the later recordings still sound like they were recorded in the sixties. In fact, I actually find the later recordings somewhat better. There is a hint of psychedelia throughout, plenty of feedback and some absolutely stonking music. If I'm really picky, I would say that some of the lyrics on a couple of the tracks are a bit cheesy, but apart from that it's a really great buy and a great listen.
