Great item but seriously bad instructions.

I suspect people giving negative reviews are struggling due to the terrible instructions. I spent a few minutes looking at the component parts and figured it out ok. Before trying to push out the old link make sure you have selected the correct size pin. The pin should be the biggest one you can fit inside in the link. Use the anvil with the two holes in it to push the new link together. Locate the concaved anvil in the tool before attempting to spread the soft link otherwise you will just push the link pins through the other side lol.

    Not quality

I bought this chain riveting tool because it said HEAVY DUTY I have used it once and some of the riveting parts I cannot use again , one of the drift punches has splayed on the end so can’t remove the nut and the link lining tool has fell apart

  • Link Applicator....

Price was good I grant you, but the threads are a trifle rough, not smooth at all. This is overcome by spanners of course, but finger use maybe difficult. The supplied spring was crushed/mangled already, so I had to replace it. The instructions were only to explain how to extract the pin, not how to re-install. I needed to drill out the 'anvil' holes so as to use it correctly, other wise the link would go together crooked. Other than that, it worked okay, but I was already familiar with using these tools before, so maybe a first timer might find it hard to work out.

  • read instructions great tool well made

split my chain , after grinding the head off the pin easily pushed the pin out , i think you must do this every time , if caught out with out a grinder dremel this tool will push the pin out eventually although the life of tool greatly reduced if you want to push pins out without grinding pin head then buy a tool that is 5 times the price , used on 525 vx chain the rivet process is easy and effective , tip take time to fully understand the process of splitting chain then re riveting using a soft link , if anyone reading this does not understand the terminology soft link dremel grinder ect then do not attempt to use this tool

  • Works perfectly for breaking and riveting

Solid build and works perfectly. You will need a socket or spanner to use it as there's no T-bar to leverage the screw with. Definitely needs better instructions but if you watch a couple of YouTube videos you'll be able to figure out how it works/what components you need to use - though I've not seen any videos for this particular model there's plenty on chain breaking (I'd recommend a channel called Delboy's Garage).

  • Gets the job done at a good price

The quality looks to be good have not tried it yet. I purchased in the knowledge you can use the pins 4-5 times so it is still better value than a higher quality item. I will only replace a rivetted chain every 3-4 years

  • Not as easy to use as i expected

the item is awkward to use , the 'pushing plate' hole centres were slighty out and didn't allow the pins to enter and had to be drilled a bigger size. When rivetting the pins there was nothing to stop the pins pushing back through the link so a a piece of steel had to be inserted between the back of the link and the body of the unit. The included information sheet only gave a brief description of how to split the chain there was no information on rivetting

So far so good. Easily pushed out the rivet on a 520 chain. I did not grind off the rivet head and I did not need a spanner, just the handle supplied. I think alignment is critical. Follow the instructions carefully. This tool gives me flexibility to add and remove links which will save me money on parts and labour. I think it is also possible to remove just one link with this tool, if you dispense with the master link. I will test this as I need an odd number of links for my particular use case

  • Don't Bother !

Rivet backing attachment just broke off and rivet ball just squashed flat on first attempt with DID 525 soft link. Borrowed a DID chain tool off a friend which completed rivet operation no problem. Don't waste your money pay a little extra for a quality tool

  • chain breaker/riveter that punches above it`s weight

solidly made, if a little agricultural, but work`s well on RK 525 chain with hollow soft link. The pins are well hard as is the riveting attachment.Has attachments for solid pins, but not tried these out yet
