  • Great safety devoce

Excited to have found this at a good value for an upcoming camping trip where cell service could be spotty. Definitely will have peace of mind. Just need to learn how to use all the features.

  • Get text messages when you are in remote areas (great for boating/camping)

PROS - Works great to send and receive text messages when you are in an area that does not have cell service. You can setup a share my location page on the garmin website (and password protect it), where people can see where you are, and also send you messages. CONS - To have someone text you, you first have to text them from your device/earthmate phone app. After you have texted them, they can reply back to you. So you initially have to reach out to the person you want to contact for them to text you back using a phone. It would be nice for someone to text you directly (without having to text them first), however since you are charged per text, I can see why they would do this. I've only used it once when I was in a remote location, but it seemed you did have to use the app (or the device) to manually check for messages, it supposed to check automatically every 20 minutes, but that does not seem to be the case. You need a paid subscription to a garmin plan, but I knew that going in. Overall, I think it works awesome, I needed a way for people to contact me in case of emergencies when I go offline. This device is way more affordable then a satellite phone.

  • A lot of technology in a small package that could save you!

Works good once you get your account all set up. Bluetooths to phone just fine. Once you get the hang of it, seems to be user friendly. Would be nice if the antenna would be able to grab the satellites a little better when sitting in the window. Can't keep it outside in the cold all day. Will cost you some money for subscription depending on which plan you pick. Nice to be able to communicate if something happens or let someone know you are ok, when there is no cell service or ham radio repeaters are not available. Battery power length is good.

  • Everything Garmin says it is.....darn thing just works and works well, and it's TINY.

It's light. It's tiny. It's easy to use. It works as advertised, allowing me to text from the nether regions. Peace of mind for my son and girlfriend as I frolic in the woods alone on hunting trips. Good value.

  • Very handy tool

I was able to pair this with my phone and my Garmin watch. Using my phone I could view map details using the Earthmate app. It was easy to begin using. I could set up custom quick messages via the web portal very easily. The only thing I didn't like was how quickly the battery died. This was because I had taken in the house where it continued to attempt to connect to GPS.

  • Nice upgrade from my old InReach.

Nice upgrade from my old InReach. I like that I can still do all of the functions on the device, it may be tiresome to compose a message but you can do it if your phone fails. Nice an light, easy to use, good quality.

  • Garmin inReach Mini brings peace of mind for family back at home. Excellent product and easy to use.

My 20 yr old son is hiking solo into the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Gives me peace of mind to be able to watch his progress on the trail and know where he is. Nice to know that if he gets into trouble up there he can send out an SOS and help will come. Thank you Garmin for a quality product for those that take the path less traveled.

  • Rugged and Not Complicated

Great quality satellite communicator, durably constructed, intuitive buttons and menu options (after spending a little time exploring how they work). At first I had to put the device on the charger before it would give any response, and there was a heart-stopping 20 minutes in which I was wondering if I had purchased a lemon, but eventually it sprang to life, completed a full charge, and has had no subsequent issues. No problem getting Bluetooth connection with my smart phone, and the Earthmate app works quite well with this device. No difficulties setting up the requisite Garmin Explore account. I sent a few test messages to family members using the device and the Earthmate app (using up a few of the very limited # of free messages allotted per month), and they all received my messages. 2 out of the 3 recipients were able to send a response; the third recipient had some trouble figuring out how the response process works, but we'll get that worked out in time. Great device to have in case of emergencies when the cell network isn't available.

  • Great product for being off the Grid!

Hi. My first Garmin product and I am impressed. After looking at reviews and doing my research, I purchased one. Is it small? Yes. Light weight? Yes. Perfect? No. Does it do the job its designed for? Yes. I go hiking many times out of cell service and this product gives me that added security if I ever need an SOS Contact. If it comes to that and it lets me down, I will update this review. Otherwise, I love it. Thank you!

  • Good to reach ya!!

works perfect sometimes very fast to text and get a response.....still some spots in a deep canyon.....where it cannot access satellites but not the InReach' fault!! Garmin's monthly cost is reasonable. My family is so excited their father has one.....as he is often out my himself.
