Bought the RPM1 in gloss red to replace a much more high end and fully upgraded Rega P5. The RPM1 was bought more for it's interesting look than in any anticipation of it sounding great or indeed anywhere near my previous P5. Like I say I thought it would sound listenable but obviously be a step down in sound quality. It was a little bit fiddly setting the tracking force but alignment of the pre fitted Ortofon 2m Red was spot on. First album up was Thomas Dolby's the Flat Earth. I have to say I was stunned by how good it sounded. Bass was phenomenally deep yet tight. Midrange had proper depth and timbre and treble was well integrated if a little rolled off at the extremes. Overall it was a very clear improvement over the P5. I wasn't expecting that. It's early days and I might yet find a few areas where it falls behind the Regs but for about one fifth of the P5. This table offers truly exceptional value.
