Leupold and Stevens is a fifth-generation, family-owned company specializing in precision telescopic sights. All of their scopes are manufactured in the United States and designed to the industry’s top standards. The VX-3L riflescope in black matte is treated with a super-hard anodizing process to resist abrasions. It is specifically designed to suit the needs of a wide variety of shooters. After many years of optical development, the VX-3L series is a combination of top-notch low-light performance and barrel-hugging design. Leupold simply removed a small concave crescent out of the bottom of the 50-millimeter objective and redesigned the scope. The low figuration of the VX-3L gives solid balance to any rifle.The VX-3 uses what Leupold calls a Light Optimization Profile, mounting with the same low profile as smaller scopes. This gives the shooter a more comfortable cheek weld. It also makes for greater eye relief and a fuller sight picture with a duplex illuminated reticle. A front retainer is used to hold the lens in place. The retainer is then secured by tiny machine screws. Leupold created the industry standard nitrogen purging and sealing process. They now use a more advanced second-generation argon/krypton gas process. The solid one-piece construction of aircraft-grade aluminum ensures the scope stays waterproof, fog-proof, and shockproof. These scopes are manufactured using the Quantum Optical System with Xtended Twilight technology. The Quantum Optical System uses advanced design and manufacturing software to produce state-of-the-art optics. The Xtended Twilight technology uses a special coating to enhance the color spectrum wavelengths associated with vision-poor environments. This provides enhanced contrast and clarity with greater detail in lower twilight conditions. The lenses are edge-blackened to further improve visibility by reducing glare. The DiamondCoat 2 coated lenses increase brightness and contrast to provide greater clarity along with exceptional scratch-resistance. The DiamondCoat 2 lens coating protects the riflescopes in the brutal environments of Iraq and Afghanistan. Protection that works in battle will also work while hunting.The advanced technology involved provides you with greater light-gathering power, resulting in a clearer image in twilight conditions. One feature that enhances the image is a large exit pupil. Exit pupil is the size of the light from the ocular lens. The larger the exit pupil, the greater the low-light visibility. This drastically extends your time in the field with what can be termed ‘extra hours of daylight.’The Ballistics Aiming Mechanism increases long-range accuracy with the lockable, fast-focus eyepiece. The smooth, infinitely adjustable magnification is made possible by graphite O-rings combined with Micro Finish interior components. The cryogenically treated dual spring titanium/nitride/stainless steel erector mechanism is durable and simple. Great scope!!
You just can't beat the quality of Leupold for the price. I mounted this scope on a ruger m77 in .243. I can easily and clearly see 2 1/2" diameter targets at 200+ yds. It's great for an afternoon of shooting without making my eyes tired.
