Okuma Nomad Travel fishing rods are easy to transport to the water whether you are on a short road trip or an international flight. Ideal for saltwater fishing, the NT-C-703 L-ML model casting rods are strong, durable, and can be assembled quickly. These rods let you take your own personal gear with you instead of relying on worn or low-quality rented equipment at your destination. Okuma crafts their rods out of graphite. This material makes them strong enough to last, but they'll still give you enough sensitivity and responsiveness to know what is happening on the end of your line. The graphite rod blank is wrapped with a carbon outer wrap for a clean, protective finish. This model has a rod power classification in the light/medium light category. This model of the Okuma Nomad Travel fishing rod is 7 feet long, the foregrip is 12.75 inches long, and the rear grip is 12.5 inches. These grips help lessen the fatigue of a long day using spinning rods on the water. They can also help improve your casting accuracy by keeping more of the rod under your direct control. The rod breaks down into three pieces for easy transport. European spigot ferrules join the pieces. This style of ferrule eliminates dead zones and gives you true one-piece rod performance. Accessories that are included with the Okuma Nomad are two tips that give you the flexibility of having two rods with the convenience of only having to travel with one. One tip section is lighter while the other is heavier. The lighter tip has a fishing line weight rating of 10-20, which makes it suitable for saltwater fish like tautog or flounder. The heavier tip has a rating of 12-30, which can let you reel in larger game fish like bluefish, striper, and tuna. Okuma travel rods have six guides along their length. The guides are made by the ALPS company from 316 stainless steel, which is the marine grade of steel. Each guide has a zirconium insert that helps reduce abrasion of the line as it passes through. This preserves the strength of the line and helps ensure that it will not break when you are reeling in your trophy catch. The reel seat on these rods where you attach your choice of reels is made by ALPS of anodized aluminum. It is an attractive two-tone color and is triangle-shaped for ergonomic comfort. If you use fighting belts or similar accessories in the boat when you are fishing, you will appreciate that this travel rod comes with a gimbal. It comes with a protective butt cap to use when you do not need the gimbal. The entire assembly of this Okuma Nomad Travel fishing rod is compact and fits neatly in a soft case. This case is custom-padded to hold each component securely in place. It closes with a zipper and is fully waterproof. Just what I needed...
This will be my rod for flying down to the East Cape. Although the ML section is listed as a 20-30# test rod, I would have no problems using this with 40# test. I took L / ML nomad travel rod to Cabo and it worked exactly as it described. Fits perfectly in the over head bin and assembles fast! The best part about this rod is the ability to go lighter in the tip with lighter line when needed. I have all the high end gear from g loomis, daiwa, shimano, Phenix etc.... but when it comes to travel rod, okuma nomad did there homework and is by far the best in value and performance.
