Reviews4 Stars-Excellent-Ranked by Q As the #1 Album of 1990., "...Airy and Delightful..."-Rating B+, Included in Q Magazine's "90 Best Albums of the 1990s.", "Wallinger’s command of the stereo field comes into tighter focus and the volume boost makes the messages of the songs feel more insistent and energizing.", Best Recording of the Month - "...a warmhearted, sonically gorgeous collection of lovably eccentric pop songs from a guy who'd be an obvious talent in any era...", 4 Stars - Excellent - "...displays an ambition as broad as the emotional range of its music...attempts to reclaim the glories to which rock once aspired, while avoiding mere imitation...", Ranked #94 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "The magpie genius of Karl Wallinger peaked with this merging of seemingly tangential streams of pop, rock, soul, dance and folk....this entire album captivates throughout.", "...A Winning Opus..."
This was Karl Wallinger’s second album, the difficult one usually. His first was Private Revolution, a monumental record. Equally, Goodbye Jumbo is full of hit songs that still address the frailty of the World we live in and take for granted. Sadly Karl passed away earlier this year and that makes his albums all the more precious. He devoted himself to singing praises for our planet until the end, even Prince took note of this album and brought him into his own management. Is it too late kicks off the record and it finishes with Thank you World. My sentiments exactly. Thank YOU Karl for your blessed music. World culture is richer for it now.
