Got 90+ degree bedroom holding around 80

Had to up it to a 5, because it never shut off from excess condensation, even with the eastern bands of Hurricane Harvey pouring rain here in Katy, Texas! Here's the original review: Sick and tired of the annual upstairs central air unit repair. It's usually $350 to replace a $10 capacitor. Last year it was $500 to replace the fan. This year, the fan spun, but no cool...and now, the fan stopped spinning, too. So, this year, up to 90+ upstairs and sleeping on the futon downstairs, I decided to invest in an emergency portable, instead of putting a down payment on my A/C's newest fishing boat. The unit got the bedroom down to 80, so far, but it's going to be 97 and Houston humid today, so I wonder when it will shut down, full of water. I doubt it's energy efficient (not Energy Star), but it's got to be cheaper than the central air cooling the entire second floor. Putting the ends on the hoses was relatively easy, except the round end on the thin (compressor cooling air in) hose - one side or the other would keep missing the "thread" on the hose or would jump down too many threads and go way off kilter. That one took a good 30-45 minutes, alone. The window kit is precisely the right width, but not a great fit for the bottom of the window frame..I didn't use the screws, but I think they would have made the panels too rigid to fit. I will seal the whole face of the panels with something, either tape or foam rubber. It's not a 5 but, so far, it's at least a 3.5. Rounded up, of course, it's a 4.

    Just Okay

We decided to buy this unit to replace our 12k BTU portable air conditioner because we wanted something colder. We live in a small California style bungalow that is under 1k square feet with the unit in the living room which is 1/4 of that. It's a rectangle room with low ceilings. A 15k BTU unit should be able to keep up with cooling this room down and making it cold, but it doesn't. The air flow is not very strong so we have to have a fan moving at high speed in order to keep the air moving around the room. The unit doesn't cool below the mid 80's during the day when it's the warmest outside. Our 12k BTU unit did a better job of cooling the room down then this 15k BTU. The top vent has to be manually pulled open when you turn the air on, not sure if it's broken or not. This unit would work best in a room that is smaller then the recommended.

  • Haier Double Hose Portable Air Conditioner

This air conditioner is powerful. It cools the top floor of my bungalow home in minutes. It's much quieter than my previous portable air conditioner. The blue display is bright at night and disturbs my rest so we cover it with a black clothe. It has a timer that can be programmed for a start time or end time within hour increments. It has evaporation technology so there's no water to empty except in extreme humidity. The price was $100 less than Wal-Mart and that makes it a great buy for a double hose portable air conditioner. I did purchase the extended warranty just in case for failure. So far so good. No more hot sleepless nights. I recommend this for your home.

  • Rough ride

Well it made it to my door. The box looked like it had been drug here behind the truck then dropped off the roof a few times. When I opened the box I was thinking the unit would be all busted up but there was just a little pice broke off from somewhere, I still haven't figured out where though. But I hooked it up and it seems to be working fine so far

  • Don't buy it.

For that price you can find a much better deal, it's a waste of time and money.
