The Polaroid Autofocus 660 Land Camera gives you hard copies of photographs with just the touch of a switch. The battery that charges the electronic flash is built into the 600 Instant Film pack. This camera, which was originally manufactured in 1981, was the first to integrate Polaroid’s patented Sonar Autofocus. The big gold disk right next to the lens is an apparatus that acts both as a sonic wave transmitter and a sonic wave receiver. These cameras calculate how far away its subject is by emitting an ultrasonic pulse. That ultrasonic pulse bounces against the subject and then back toward the camera, where it’s recaptured by the sonic receiver. The Land Camera then translates the time interval involved into a measure of distance, which the autofocus feature uses for calibration. The Autofocus 660 is extremely simple to operate. To use the built-in electronic illumination, simply press down on the red switch. The illumination mechanism will go off, and your camera will take a picture. When you want to recharge the illumination mechanism, merely press the red switch halfway in and hold down for 5 to 10 seconds.
