Paul Cochrane Timmy Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal

About this product

Product Information

For a big sound, consider the Paul Cochrane Timmy overdrive guitar effect pedal. This great piece of guitar gear gives musicians control over volume, audio effects, and more. With this pedal, customizing the tone and sound of guitars is simple. If you're searching for a pedal that will add flavor to your dry amplifier sound without overwhelming it, this overdrive may be the solution. The Timmy overdrive is famous for its impressive tonal clarity. It provides a clean boost, but it never infringes upon the sounds produced by the amp. This is largely due to its single-circuit overdrive design. Instead of offering one tone knob, this device features a variety of control dials. This gives guitarists greater flexibility to create their own unique musical color. This signal tailoring precision has made the Timmy an integral part of many pedalboards. When guitarists use the device at the lowest settings, it gives the amp a clean, clear boost. When the settings are turned up, however, musicians can use this device to create tones with more depth, ranging from smooth notes to reedy sounds. This pedal is notable for having many cut dials. There is the Bass knob, which helps guitarists dial pre-distortion sounds. The Treble knob, on the other hand, is useful for post distortion tunes. The Gain knob can be used to modulate the amount of clipping, and the Volume/Boost knob impacts the output gain. There is also a three-way clipping-switch. This gives musicians the ability to alternate between symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping. These cut controls simplify the tone dialing process and give guitarists a great deal of EQ control. Notably, this device lets guitarists cut out unwanted bass and treble from a signal. The Paul Cochrane Timmy pedals are also known for their impressive responsivity. This device can immediately respond to the gentle strum of fingers or the blunt attack of a guitar solo; it has a similarity to the responsiveness of a tube amplifier. This touch sensitivity makes it an ideal pedal for musicians looking for fast-reacting guitar gear. A 9-volt battery is required to operate the Timmy. It can also run on AC power. This gives guitarists the flexibility and portability needed for live performance settings. The pedal is also relatively small and compact. This streamlined overdrive pedal is more space efficient than the vintage Tim and takes up less room on the pedalboard. The Timmy is also good at integrating into an already existing board signal chain. When used in a chain, it noticeably enhances the fullness of the sounds while also providing a boost of EQ. Every single one of these guitar pedals is made by hand. Because of their limited-edition status, none of the Timmy pedals are the same. They are even made in a variety of colors. This has turned them into sought-after collector's items. Guitarists who enjoy the interplay between guitar and amp will find these pedals worth it. They are recommended for use with high-quality amplifiers that offer great natural character.

  • Great overdrive. Almost perfect.

I'm an old school guitarist. I've used tube screamers for years. I was looking for something that had the dynamics of my screamers but had a shade more bass content without turning to mush. I found a few that worked, but I wanted a leave on set it and forget it pedal that would work with all of my gear on the same settings. The Timmy does that... Sort of. It works with all my guitars with one of my amps but not with the other. It loves my big el34 amp, it just doesn't get along with my smaller el84 amp. I was planning on replacing my 30 watt amp with a second el34 50 watt amp so that's not a real problem for me but it is something to keep in mind. Paul C designed this pedal around a Marshall Plexi. With that type of amp, there's nothing better. The pedal is versatile enough to work with other amps, but you will have to adjust the settings. Just keep that in mind if you're considering the Timmy.

  • My favorite Overdrive in my collection

Seriously, I have the Tubescreamer TS-808, Boss OD-1, Guthrie Trap, The Animal and of course "Timmy" overdrive pedals. Each one has it's very own unique qualities that really create inspiring sounds, but what sets Timmy apart from the rest is the usable range of overdrive. The other overdrives I own are either very limited on just how much hair I can add to my signal or has a lot of range that just isn't usable. I love every setting on Timmy's gain setting. I do favor the middle positon on the three way switch for the brightness but I use every increment of the drive settings. It really is my favorite.

  • Perfect boost pedal

The Timmy has got to be the best boost for juicing up solos or adding some extra horsepower to a guitar with weaker pickups. The transperancy is what makes this pedal shine, you can dial it in for just a bit more of what you already have or add some "hair" for more sustain without affecting your existing tone. Paul Cochrane is a super cool guy and an awesome pedal builder..I use to own one of the early Tim pedals (Timmy's big brother) and sold it to a buddy and am still regretting it. You simply can't go wrong with this pedal!

  • Very impressive overdrive

I'd never seen a Timmy in person before. I'd watched some demos online, but that was it. I was looking for a light distortion that didn't sound funny, and the Timmy is just it. Very natural, organic, easy on the ears overdrive. Something every guitar player should check out at some point. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase.

  • Good boost without coloring the amp sound

I was looking for a pedal to help break up my Fender Princeton Reverb a little easier. It is a very clean amp by default and I like a little grit. I've tried probably five different pedals and they all colored the sound too much and took away what makes that amp sound so good naturally. The Timmy is the first one I've found that gives me a little punch without affecting the natural amp sound too much. It still does a little but it can be dialed down enough to where it's not nearly as noticeable. Nice adjustments that allow me to dial in great sound going from a chimey Fender guitar to a more burly Gibson LP. Happy with this pedal.

  • Ultimate boost/drive pedal

After seeing this pedal on YouTube, cheers 'That Pedal Show', I knew I had to add this to my board. The dynamics of the pedal are incredible, from a gentle clean boost through to searing drive, the response I get is fantastic. I especially like the use of cut controls, they make so much more sense. This pedal works really as an 'always on' pedal, and also stacks really well with a tubescreamer style pedal to get a bit more push from the mid-range. One note, the sound gets quite bright when my carbon copy is added, not a problem as the treble can be rolled off, but could be a bit of a nuisance live. Also, splitting hairs but the colour to my eyes looks more seafoam than surf. In summary, this pedal lives up to all the hype and reviews. Exactly the sound I was after.

  • Best Pedal Ever, Pretty Much

This is the second time I've bought a Timmy and I won't let this one go. Really works with your amp for a better tone. I've got a handmade Robert Hinson amp, which sounds amazing on its own, but the Timmy sends it out-of-this-world!! Just get one, you won't ever regret it.

  • Awesome overdrive. Lives up to it's reputation.

The Timmy is versatile thanks to having both a treble and a bass control. It also has 3 clipping modes and a surprising amount of gain for a low to moderate gain style overdrive. The build is solid and the layout is clear - bass and treble work in reverse though. Having owned and used many overdrive pedals over many years I feel confident in saying the Timmy is perhaps my favorite thus far for most styles I play. It has a warmth and tonal characteristic all of it's own. I play a wide range of styles and I find it has a place anywhere short of Heavy Metal.

  • Tim's little brother

I have an early breadboard Tim I've been using since 2004. I never used the boost so the larger Hammond box was wasted space. Finally broke down and picked up a Timmy. I still had a spare Burr Brown OPA2134 opamp, which sounds great in my Tim, so I swapped it out and this pedal sounds pretty close! Love it in front of my 50 watt Marshalls!

  • This pedal is nothing short of amazing! It's incredibly dynamic, and organic. If you have the money don't waste it on a tube screamer.

This guy (Paul Cochrane) knows what he's doing. This pedal is worth every penny. It takes a little bit of experimenting to get the sound you're looking for but it's there. Very dynamic and organic.
