Danelectro French Toast Octave Guitar Effect Pedal

About this product

Product Information

The old Foxx Tone Machine is revived in the form of this Danelectro DJ-13 French Toast Octave Distortion pedal. This fuzzy, '70s-style guitar effects pedal has a durable, seafoam green finish with a retro construction and classic features. This is an upgrade from Dano's DJ-12 Chili Dog octave pedal. It's also a virtual clone of that vintage Foxx fuzzbox. It's part of the Danelectro “Diner Series” of pedals that also includes the Chicken Salad Vibrato and the Pepperoni Phaser. These Danelectro octave pedals have the same housing as the other Danelectro mini effects pedals. They also utilize the same scheme of a buffered bypass. This gives it an improved fuzz sound over units that place the fuzz following the buffer. It prevents the problem of tone suck that occurs from running too many buffers in your signal chain. While this box is made for guitars, it can be used with basses or keyboards as well. The great octave sound produced by this pedal will turn heads and give your playing a touch of magic with its ability to provide everything from electric sounds to deep, warm tones. Use it as a fuzzbox alone, a fuzzbox plus a doubler, or an octave-up effect. These pedals give the full, strong octaves effects on all strings. It goes from the lowest frets all the way up the neck. The chassis on this guitar effects pedal features three knobs and one toggle switch. The knobs are, from left to right, Level, Dist, and EQ. Level controls the degree of the overall result produced. The Level can also be thought of as a Volume knob for the result. It lets you give it a good strong boost to the result produced. At high fuzz, settings reach unity gain at around the 10 o'clock position. When set to a low distortion you'll reach that unity gain at just the 1 o'clock position. The Dist knob controls the amount of distortion in the audio produced, and the range it produces is broad. At low, settings add a good grit to your audio. At high, settings get a big, saturated grate like the famous vintage Big Muff boxes. EQ controls the proportion of bass to treble in the resulting effect. The toggle switch turns on and off the octave-up function. This function literally cranks up all the audio passed through the gear one full octave. A simple, single footswitch activates and disables the effect. Optional proprietary Danelectro plastic collars help protect the controls from unexpected damage during use. It's hard to believe that this compact pedal can deliver as equally strong a punch live onstage as in the studio with its distinguished, crisp sound. Fuzz up your guitar or drop an octave with this French Toast pedal by Danelectro. Achieve solos that shriek, pierce, and sear the scalp with this slick machine. It's a great and affordable alternative to expensive fuzz effects pedals and accessories, and it doesn’t resort to cheap quality materials and sounds. Accessories that come with a new version of this item include a 9V battery.

    Fuzz is the word...

OK, i'ts plastic and the knobs are quite small, but what the hell, with the octaver on and distortion up just a little this baby screams; only thing to think of is just hit one string at a time, this thing suits best for garage/surf/punk, totally love it!!! Only glitch is it doesn't have a power indicator, but I can live with that...

  • Most critical review

Might want to pass on this unless you are going to create horror movie soundtracks

Well I can see why there are many of these items still for sale! There is a whole slew of them and they all hum and have a very un- natural distorted sound even with or without the octave switch, So, this pedal gets a big one out of five stars. I will attempt to modify it if possible.

  • Excellent Value

This is a great value for what it is. Solid tone, and performance. Cheap plastic housing but that is how they keep the price low. Also a great stand alone fuzz pedal, although its on the aggressive end of the fuzz spectrum, it doesn’t clean up well by rolling the volume back on your guitar. All in I’m glad I purchased it.

  • Great sound for good price

This pedal sounds great! I love the name and look too. Only down sides are no LED power indicator and a bit of noise when in non octave mode. Fantastic distortion though for a good price

  • This little monster looks like a toy but it definitely doesn't sound like one!

Simply the most amazing pedal in Danelectro food series and the best fuzz pedal under $60! Real fuzz tone with creamy texture when you keep the tone and distortion level on 9:00 and an aggressive angry tone on maximum levels, with an authentic 60's octave option. Matches beautifully with both clean or high gain amps, very responsive to after-equalization with a whole different tone and response. Even better than their previous awesome cool cat fuzz v.1 which I also have. I will rehouse it soon to keep this baby secure.

  • Very versatile as well

The Pedal itself is awesome there’s a lot of octave pedal out there and this one does exactly what I wanted it to do. It gets an octave you sound like Kenny Wayne shepherd’s rig. It’s perfect for my use. Very versatile as well
