The power behind all this great amp modeling and the pedal's other effects is a proprietary 24-bit processing chip that was developed by DigiTech. The processing capabilities of this device enable it to render great sound that is crisp and clean from any amplifier in your collection. The RP50 includes a LED tuner which has 13 LED lights in an arc array, making it quick and easy for you to tune your guitar after a blistering solo. This is especially useful during performances when frequent tuning is required. Another great feature is an onboard drum machine with 30 different beats and patterns. This allows you to practice your guitar riffs more effectively and is useful for songwriting or casual solo jam sessions. The studio quality effects package found in this pedal is outstanding. It includes whammy, wah, chorus, phaser, tremolo, rotary speaker, delay, and reverb. Its AudioDNA DSP chip lets you achieve a level of sound that is authentic and crisp.This pedal includes a power supply and plugs directly into a wall outlet. It can also be operated with six AA batteries. The unit can be used with an iPad if a supported guitar interface is used. You can connect a pair of headphones to the unit for mobile practice sessions, and it can even be used with small computer speakers via its 3.5mm headphone jack. Guitars are plugged into the unit's standard instrument cable jacks. The device is designed to be used with a standard amplifier or audio interface and requires only an amp cord for its connection. Ninety-nine channels with a drum machine?!
It may be old, but it makes up for 3-5 individual pedals. Drum patterns are great, you can set tempo, etc. DigiTech also did a great job with a pre-amp type variation that provides a boost with same settings. Not bad for playing with headphones, but lousy running into an amp
This works great as a headphone/practice amp, with a ton of tonal variations and some really lush reverb sounds. But it just does not sound good using as an effect pedal into a clean amplifier, which is what it's actually supposed to be. And the high-gain tones just sound odd. "Back in my day..." an effects unit like this, when it first came on the market cost thousands. This one was $35. It's easy to use, and even though you select from a collection of presets on any given effect, it's pretty good at getting close to "that sound" if you can't get it exactly.
