Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar

About this product

Product Information

The Fender American Standard Series Stratocaster HSS is a perfect electric guitar for players who like big, fat humbucker tone. Redesigned with improvements that include the modern C-shaped maple neck with glossed neck front and satin polyurethane finish on back for smooth playability. Bent steel Fender saddles with classic look and great tone. String spacing narrowed for modern playability, saddle height screws re-sized to reduce rough feel, and string slot on saddle elongated to reduce string friction or breakage. Custom staggered tuning machines eliminate the need for one of the string trees. Staggered pole pieces in the pickups provide balanced output across all strings, and specifically improves the G-string's tone. Two-point trem, rosewood or maple fretboard, and genuine Fender American craftsmanship add up to a Fat Strat style guitar that is a dream come true.

  • Classic strat sound + humbucker = awesome

I'm playing this through my Marshall DSL40C. I use a tube screamer and a noise gate and thats it. All in it's about a $1200 set up, which is not bad for a brand new, gig ready rig. Because of the humbucker this guitar's versatility is increased that much more. It does passable metal tones, but I will admit I felt like there was something lacking. Even the humbucker pickup the sound still has that Fender twang. If you wanted to do anything harder than Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden you would probably need something a little higher output. The body weight feels doesn't feel too light or heavy, it's just right to me. I blocked my trem before I did anything else. The string tree was screwed all the way down, so I raised that to my liking. The neck shape feels great, however they used way too many layers of gloss. It feels like a piece of plastic or something. Seriously, i don't think you should be able to use the back an unpainted neck as a mirror. All together i give it 4/5 stars. Pros: Feels good, sounds good, does just about any genre Cons: Thin sounding humbucker, neck is too glossy

  • Fender American Deluxe HSS Stratocaster

I have been playing rock/metal/blues now for almost 40 years, and have played many guitars in my time. This is a beautiful guitar capable of heavy and clean sounds. It played like butter and the tremolo stayed in tune well with the locking tuners and roller nut. Unfortunately I returned it. I noticed a huge difference between the humbucker and single-coil pickup volume levels when switching between them. I thought they might have been more balanced. The pickup height looked ok so I don't think adjusting them would have made much difference. The only other thing I noticed is the humbucker was noisy compared to my other Seymour Duncan loaded guitars. Hope this is helpful to anyone considering purchasing one.

  • Some SetUp required

Came with 9's on it. I suppose they were Fender 9-42 Super Bullets from the factory. The neck had zero relief and the tremolo sat at a 5-6 degree tilt lifting out of the body even with that light set of strings. Neck was straight as an arrow. This WAS a customer return so he probably didn't know those things were minor and could be remediated by a knowledgeable guitar guy, so he brought it back. It may have just gotten a quick once over and was "out-the-door" again. It's set-up now and does it ever wail. Big range of tones and the neck feels great now that it's been fret filed and those big frets polished down with 10K paper. This one just needed some love.

  • Fender Am Std Strat with Rosewood fretboard

Fun guitar to play, Neck size easy for moderate size hands, easy access to upper frets. Lot of room for adjustment re action. Nice change in tone from neck to bridge pickups.

  • Nice guitar after a little work

Pickups had to go. Not sure what they are but they are kinda harsh...ceramic? Anyway, I put in a set of Fralin Blues Special singles and a hot humbucker....so much better. The pickguard is poorly fit at the bridge no screw hole on the lower side despite there being one drilled in the wood. I have a feeling they just modified a standard guard...but not well...it actually inhibits the bridge a little (although the bridge did hold tune). So that had to be filed a bit. The Ping (FR licensed) bridge was decent enough but I had a real Floyd so I swapped it. Had to remove the posts and bushings and replace with Floyd ones...the Ping posts are a little sketchy in design IMHO. Frets have a little wear so I had a tech level them--actually flattened the radius just a bit below the 12th fret. 9.5 radius worked ok but it did fret out a little with bends, especially from 14 on. Shaping up to be a good gig guitar...one I won't worry about much.

  • Excellent guitar

Have a Yamaha SG1820 , $3300 guitar, Since the day I received this guitar I haven't even touched the YAMAHA! Excellent tone, great playing feel. It will open up your mind to write new songs! Highly recommended.

  • Outstanding Guitar for the money. With or without the upgraded Pickups, you can't beat an HSS Mexican Strat

I own too many guitars to cover but it includes two Master built Custom Shop Fender Strats. Those are the tip top but you pay for it. This is very well made guitar that can be exceptional if you put a few $ to have it set-up right. Spend $150 on new pickups and it is every bit as good as the American Standard if not better. I am not implying that this as good they make them in the Fender Custom Shop but, for the money, there is no better guitar and you will always be able to sell it for the same price you paid.

  • Sounds great, plays great. Looks amazing!

I've owned a fender Squire in the past and I also own a Gibson Les Paul Elegant. For the money, this is pretty fantastic guitar.
