About this product

Product Information

The Marshall Hardwired 2061X 20 watt guitar amp head can be a great piece of gear. This is part of Marshall's all valve, hand wired series. These amps can help any electric guitar to sound its best. The 2061X two channel amp head is a faithful reissue of the classic 2061 heads made by Marshall from 1968 to 1973.Known as the "Lead and Bass," the original Marshall 2061 was famed for its portability and excellent tone. This reissue features period hand wiring and hand soldering. Hand wiring, also called point to point wiring, is known to have a number of advantages. For one thing, handwired models are easy to repair or modify. The alternative of printed circuit board (or PCB) wiring, is inexpensive in the short term, but hand wiring is a great investment for long term use by professional players. It also features classic all valve construction, like the guitar amplifiers of rock's heyday. Tube amps can contribute to a warm and well rounded sound. They are also very durable and able to withstand short periods of overheating.Marshall is well known for the quality of the audio produced by its amps. This company ushered in the hard rock era by providing just the level of bite guitarists wanted. As rock culture developed in the 1960s, Marshall's amps were some of the first to become truly loud and feature iconic reverb sounds. Legendary musicians such as Pete Townshend were among the early adopters. Though Marshall technology has continued to evolve, this reissue is a return to the specs of that era. They still sound great, so this amp head can be a quality choice of gear for any guitarist interested in classic rock. The Marshall 2061X amp head has tone and volume controls, as well as a preamp with two ECC83 valves. There are also two cathode biased EL84s in the power stage. There are four (2x2) inputs. Since this is a 20 Watt amp, with comparatively low power, this amp will go into overdrive at a lower relative volume. This can make it a flexible piece. Whether you are using the 2061X amp on stage or in the studio, this is an amp that can deliver some boom, while also providing precise dynamics. Bridging the two channels, in particular, can expand the range of tone you can create.A silicon diode rectifier rounds out the electronic components package. The rectifier transforms the AC current coming from the transformer to the DC current utilized by the tubes. The silicon diode technology used here is far more efficient than the tube diodes used in the 1950s. Because it is solid state technology, this rectifier has an aggressive edge, which can be perfect for the rock trends of today. This can be a high quality guitar amplifier. By going to the back catalog, Marshall has provided one of the legendary rock amplifiers to a new generation. This vintage reissued 20W 2061X Marshall amp head can be just the accessory to bring out the best in your electric guitars. You can use it with accessories such as effects pedals and experiment with a variety of cabinet speakers. You can be pleasantly surprised by the results that it delivers.

  • a great amp

This is an excellent amp. I usually play an Alessandro hardwired Fender Deluxe and needed something else. The 2061x exceeded my expectations. Played through a matching 2061cx cabinet, it has the classic Marshall crunch through the lead channel and a more reserved fender-esque voice through the bass channel. 20 watts is plenty of power for most situations, especially if you are seeking to achieve an overdriven sound. The overall character of the amp exhibits strong attack and crisp response. Its a surprisingly versatile amp. As with most Marshalls, the two channels can be bridged with a short patch cable for additional tonal variations. Its not an inexpensive piece of equipment but certainly worth the price.
