Creative Nomad Jukebox ZEN Xtra
Great old school mp3/wma portable music player!!! If you are a little fed up with the build quality of products manufactured in todays format of easily breakable, high volume, throw away products which have the feeling of no substance, no quality and might snap in two if you didnt treat it with kid gloves, then you might like to take a look at the Creative Nomad Jukebox ZEN Xtra; its pretty old now, uses an old type of interface, (creative's supplied software isn't the best) and still uses an internal drive as its storage medium but it feels a lot more robust than the newer players on sale today. Sound quality is great and there's plenty of different EAX sound models to try :-) One flaw I have heard of is that if you drop the player with its charging wire still connected/inserted and by some fluke it lands heavily on that wire/socket (in area where that wire inserts) the player can get damaged irreversibly and all it does is switch off and on continuously - so beware!!!! Some newer players break at the slightest knock and are rendered useless unless you pay an exorbitant repair price and/or have insurance to cover repair or replacement :-( Its no longer supported (upto and including Win XP 64bit) by Creative but I've had mine for years and its still going fine. A better user interface for use with this player is Notmad Explorer (can be a little glichy at times) which allows for drag and drop via computer whereas Creative's software does not!! Prices for 2nd hand models have gone rather stupid - especially on eBay - so dont pay silly money for one as they are old now and I personally dont feel they command the value people ask/get for them on eBay. Also beware of the different variants of this player (the name of them can be confusing) as there's a Creative Zen aswell as the Nomad Jukebox Zen and the Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra - also note the storage size differences 30GB, 40GB and 60GB!! STICK TO THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE - DONT BOTHER UPGRADING IT, IT CAUSES ISSUES!!! ONCE UPGRADED, YOU CANNOT REVERT TO THE OLD VERSION!!!!!
