SynopsisIn the Warhammer world, four Gods of Chaos battle for supremacy: Khorne, the Blood God; Nurgle, the Plaguelord; Tzeentch, the Changer of Ways; Slaanesh, the Lord of Temptations. In the Chaos in the Old World board game, 2-4 players take on the roles of the malevolent Lords of Chaos. Each god's distinctive powers and legion of followers give the controlling player unique strengths and heretical abilities with which to corrupt and enslave the Old World. As the powers of Chaos seek domination by corruption and conquest, they must vie not only against each other, but also against the desperate denizens of the Old World who fight to banish the gods back to the maelstrom of the Realm of Chaos... for now.
A great game that manages to balance different playstyles
This is a great mostly Euro-style boardgame (there are some dice rolls) in which the four Chaos gods vie for power in the Old World. Power can be achieved either by corrupting different regions or by increasing their threat level. The first one happens through the summoning of cultists throughout the world to expand your corruption (while using demons and other effects to counter your opponents cultists), and the second changes from god to god. This is what makes the game so great: each god is slightly different from each other in ways that reflect their domains and make their play styles distinct and even antagonist. At the same time, they are all enjoyable and not that hard to understand. The first time this game is played it might seen intimidating, with all the rules and components, but it isn't hard to grasp and soon the players are plotting to take control of the world. If I had to complain about anything it would be about the miniatures, not because they are bad, but because they are small and came all crumpled in a plastic bag, so some of then are distorted. I have seen instructions to use hot water to fix that, but I haven't done so yet. All in all, a must play in my opinion.
