After a failed attempt to crack Fleet Street, a cynical journalist returns to his homeland of Yorkshire and finds himself assigned to report on the case of a local girl who has gone missing. But after her bizarrely mutilated body is discovered, he is thrown into a sleaze infested, nightmarish world of corruption. As the killer's identity remains a mystery, savage events spiral out of control, spanning generations and leading to a shocking climax.

    Great trilogy.

    It is a great production. My only complaint is that the Yorkshire accents are extremely difficult to understand. Subtitles would solve this problem. It took my to the 3rd episode to begin catching on the thick accent.

    Brilliantly written from the great series of books and acted, depicting the grim dark heart of the north in those years. Pity its been buried by all channels , a bit too controversial i quess, it wouldnt get made today even.

    If there was an option for 6 stars this would rate it. Magnificent work with superb cast of some of the best actors this country possesses. Sean Bean never better. Paddy Consadine,Jim Broadbent, Warren Clarke and Peter Mullan . Scandi-noir alright I suppose but Yorkshire noir, now you're talking!
