  • Sometimes Hyperbolie Isn't !

I was consulting with fellow guitarists in a community of guitars I had very little experience with. I've owned close to a hundred guitars and have played probably more than a thousand (Not Hyperbole). I worked at two guitar stores one of them being the largest guitar center in California. My personal mission was to play every guitar I could get my hands on. I owned a cheap 70 dollar Ibanez just to put NHRA stickers on. It was a wall hanger. I gave it to my next door neighbor's son when we moved from Carmel. I had always considered Ibanez cheap Japanese guitars that would be in the dumpster in a few years. So I never bothered to play any of the Ibanez. Not even the one I owned. Recently I saw the most beautiful guitar on EBAY that was an RGR320EX. I figured, if I bought the beautiful body, my guitar guy could make it play the way I wanted it to. He could craft a handmade neck and put custom pick ups in it. When it got here, it played better than it looked. I was stunned. So I got to know the people that were crazy about these guitars. Guitarists like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, and most everyone I talked to loved their guitars and had huge collections. (Like I said they're cheap guitars). But one knowledgeable member told me, if I liked the 320; I should try a higher end Ibanez and he specifically recommended the RG550. 550s are hard to find. (Good ones are) So I was patient and waited for this guitar to get relisted. The seller wanted way more than the average asking price. But I wanted one in Red so I waited. He finally relisted it for more than he had ever asked. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid more. I hit the buy it now button as soon as I saw it relisted. It arrived yesterday. Remember; I'm a professional guitarist with 4 solo albums. This is the best guitar I've ever played. I own a custom guitar made by EVH. This guitar beats it by a mile. It's not for sale at any price. I intend to buy another 550 to see if they are all like this or if the seller just took great care of this 25 year old vintage piece. This is the best guitar I've ever played or owned. Thank you Tyler.

  • Ibanez RG550XH: Good guitar for the money.

I found a 30-fret RG550XH model Ibanez on eBay for $400 and I'd say its a pretty good guitar for that money. Its pretty solidly constructed and the build quality is good for a guitar in this price range. When it comes to electric guitar, Buckethead, Rush, Dream Theater and Opeth are some of my favorite artists. The Wizard III neck is thin, but not too thin; its really easy to play and begs to be played fast. The electronically simulated neck humbucker is convincing enough for my ears, and the 5-way toggle makes it pretty sonically versatile. The pickups are on the bright side and pack a lot of punch. Some people might think they're too high output but I like the way they sound. Most of my problems with the guitar come from the extra 6 frets. Upper fret access to the first 24 frets is unsurpassed, but getting up to the last 6 frets might be a little difficult at first. I'm 6'1" so I have pretty big hands, and the top 6 frets are scrunched so close together that I can't articulate very well up there. I can tap and form chords up there okay, but shredding takes some practice. If you have smaller hands you'll probably have an easier time than me. I personally think a guitar with this many frets should have at least a 27" scale length so its a little easier to play up there. Overall, its a good guitar for the money, and if you're curious about it I'd recommend getting it since they're fairly rare and not that expensive. Its fun to experiment with the extended range. I'd recommend trying one before you buy it, but I think you'll like it nevertheless.

  • precision instrument

ibanez makes the most precision built instruments for the money I have ever experianced. I have always played RG's this thing is a soloists dream due to the easy access to the upper frets, even if you do not play above the 24th fret the access to that point is improved this guitar is solid refined and unique. The front pickup simulator sounds very round and bubbly, glad I got this thing!

  • RG655M... GET ONE!!

The absolute best feature is the Super Wizard neck...you couldn't get much thinner..17mm first fret, 19mm 12th fret. The stock DiMarzios..Tone Zone and Air Norton, and a True Velvet single..Killer Tone generators! The Edge trem can take any beating you wanna give it, and it bounces right back into tune. Lastly, being a Prestige model, I can say the craftsmanship of this guitar is outstanding.

  • Ibanez RG550 Fugi-Gen

Great iconic guitar from the 80-90s. Built like a tank and made to last. Very versatile and stable, it will not go out of tune and its looks are simple enough so that it does not look dated even after 30 years. Highly recommended. Everything about it is right: the weight, the way it was built, the tone, the feel, the looks...

  • It's like the Toyota of the gitars, very reliable!

I didn't have the chance to hear the original pickups because I change them for a Bare Knuckle Juggernaut Misha Mansoor Alnico/Ceramic Humbucker Pickups Black set. A very tricky process but is worth it.
