The 2.5-way B&W is a floor standing model and is therefore built as a tower. This allows it to stand tall in any room or location. At the lowest part of the tower, there is a cone driver that is meant for handling low frequencies. This aluminum cone driver, measuring 165 millimeters, focuses solely on achieving the deepest of bass sounds for your enjoyment. Along with a larger cabinet volume, this cone driver also gives an extended audio response with a different free-field alignment. This makes it better suited to the being in a floor standing format, such as the one that this system provides.The 2.5-way system is a second bass-only driver used for the enhancement of the output of the upper bass and midrange driver in the lowest octaves. The midrange driver and Kevlar cone bass then work together in this system's unique mushroom shape of construction to reduce any auditory distortion. Each of the two drivers in these speakers operates in their own isolated chamber. The upper driver is ported to the rear of the cabinet. This arrangement increases the system’s power handling and reduces the demand on the lower frequencies for enhanced clarity. For any high-resolution recording formats, the ultrasonic region of these speakers has been improved from the previous model. The tweeter response in the ultrasonic region recognizes the needs of the new high-resolution recording formats.
