A truly French styled recording of a French opera.
This recording is from 1946 and the sound is clear (although monaural, of course). The
singers are all authentically French, the only such recording of this opera for which that
is true. So the style of the performance is just right.
The conductor does an excellent job and the Delilah is great. The Samson is imperfect
but certainly adequate. The only other difficulty is the chorus, which is too recessed.
Overall, this is in some ways the best recording of this opera.
