An great combination of strategy and RPG elements
Warning: this game can take easily over 3 hours and almost always over 2.
You essentially walk around, exploring the land and defeating orcs, dragons or even invading and conquering cities, alone or with an army of a few units you can recruit along the way.
The game has an interesting combination of deck building mechanics in the form of a progression system and has quite a strategic depth.
The rules, while may seem a lot at first glance, are comprehensive and "make sense".
I would not recommend it as a casual game and I would suggest at least one player should be into games like this.
Some of the strong points:
- minimal setup time
- many different game modes (co-op, solo, team vs team, competitive and not-so-competitive-yet-not-co-op)
- huge replayability due to the random generation of the map and the variant rules
- good start for gamers who want to explore less casual board games
- reference cards for most things you can come across
- there are many times during a scenario where you can easily pause the game and come back to it at some later time.
Things you might want to consider:
- if you don't like rule books longer than 10 pages, you might want to skip it
- this is a game that requires time and thinking.
- you will need a big table to play
- only for up to 4 players
