    Own 6 of them

Between my office at work and my house, I have 6 of these in use, and they are all doing OK except for one. I think in May of 2018, Honeywell's provider for the software for these did a firmware update that cause some units to lose connection to WiFi and display Invalid WiFi Password even when the password is correct. If you Google this problem, you will see it affects some units, and you have to work to get their tech support to resolve / fix it. It might connect to a different network like a mobile hotspot, but not the original one. I still don't know what the problem is with that one unit. There are no special characters in the WiFi password, and two other units of the same model number are connected to the same WiFi network. I had to connect that one problem unit to a different WiFi network, and it works fine on that. I don't know if they have a glitch with the Linksys EA6900 router, but then why do the other two units work fine? But overall, 1 problem unit out of 6 is not too bad, and they have been otherwise reliable.

    Missing key features

In Arizona, one of the biggest saving can be achieved by Precooling before peak hours. Well, this fancy thermostat cannot do that (something a $15 one can do). You are also limited to 4 temperature settings per day, which again makes precooling impossible. So ...not good for something that is supposed to save you money !

  • Definitely worth the money

Ever since I purchased the wifi thermostat, I've been taking advantage of using the app to set the temp when I'm home or headed home from work. Took me while to get it installed because my existing HVAC system didn't have a "C" wire, but once I found a workaround it works like a charm. I initially thought that the display screen would be bigger but after a while it doesn't bother me. The price for this thermostat at Home Depot was $179. I found it on eBay for $74. It was in great condition and I was able to get Honeywell to unregister on t from the previous owner. Definitely worth buying. I plan on installing one upstairs.

  • Great thermostat. Ran a new wire to the a/c handler so I could supply the needed "C" wire Wich is a 24 volt DC power supply right off the transformer.

Unlike the other LCD programable thermostats that most people have. This requires a 24 volt "C" common wire because the display is a real touchscreen backlit LED. The other LCD screens power the screen with batteries. Usually 2 or 3 AA batteries. It is nice large screen display and is real bright. Easy to use and program without the directions. Very user friendly program😀

  • Honeywell RT9580WG WiFi Touch Smart Thermostat

I'm a 65 yr. old woman. I installed this all by myself & I programmed a day by day schedule, too. The only difficulty I had was with the house wiring. Those wires are as stiff as my fingers. Needle nosed pliers solved that. The screen is easy read & to use. If I can use the app anyone can. When away from the house I can check the temperature via the app & adjust it if I want. Plus, it works with the Amazon Alexa! Now I can join a special program with my electric company. M- F. Two hours in the morning & two hours around dinner time ( 20 hrs per week ) the rates will be very high. During all the remaining hours the rates will be extremely low. I scheduled the temperature so that the HVAC will not turn on during those hours only. The thermostat will pay for itself in a short time. Any savings after that is a bonus. The thermostat has been in use for over a month without any problems. In three words...I love it. 😍

  • Honeywell WI-FI Smart Thermostats

Great thermostats. Installed two in our Lodge Building (upstairs and Downstairs). Easy to set up. Since the building is only occupied and used 1 Thursday, 1 Monday and 2 Saturdays each month, it was not necessary to program the entire month. I programmed the hold temp for heating and cooling for the entire month. When the building was going to be used on those days, I was able to bring up the app on my phone and bring on the desired heating or cooling prior to the meeting. One neat thing that I didn't see in the documentation was once I bring the heating or cooling on with the app, it holds that desired temperature for three hours and then goes back to the weekly set points for temperature. If you need to go more that 3 hours just go into the app and update the time to get more time.

  • Be careful....

The unit I purchased had been registered previously and could not be registered by me without the previous users login and pass word. After multiple calls to Honeywell this problem was solved. In addition, the previous owner had damaged the wire terminal so rewiring was more difficult than I expected. The documentation is not clear on how to handle the wires associated with changeover on a heat pump from cooling to heating (and vice versa) so I am still working on getting the heating to work in heat pump mode./

This thermostat works well with the Vera bub. It is easy to use and has all the features you need to remotely manage your house. It also is easy to use when you are there and blends well with your decor.

  • Good product gets better with recent update

I have installed these thermostats in each of my two homes and they have not disappointed. This thermostat installs easily and is fairly straight forward to operate. I am into no monthly cost home automation and the wifi capability works well. I knew that Honeywell was in the process of making this thermostat "SmartThings" compatible and over the last week they released the software upgrade that allows me to integrate this thermostat into my SmartThings app. If you are looking for the artificial intelligence, motion sensing type thermostat, then you need to look at NEST or Honeywells higher end Lyric. For me, I just want to be able to program it for typical use, control it remotely and occasionally override the programing with a hold. For these features and the price it is hard to beat.

  • Great thermostat for upgrading thermostat

Great price, easy to install, a bit small to wire up vs Venstar's I have installed recently. Software better though for options using internet. Arrived new in box, brand new
