Cryptic Readings, but great when you get used to it.
The Tanita scales are great, giving very accurate and detailed readings. However, the presentation of the readings is very obscure, and not improved much by the literature that came with the item. It was very difficult to set up the machine in the first place and I'm still not sure how to access historic data, though it's supposed to have been stored somewhere. The readings cycle cryptically and apart from the occasional kg or % it's very unclear from the screen what measurement it's actually giving you - you have to refer to the booklet every time. The buttons are confusing and the booklet isn't terribly clear either - there are even some contradictory statements, probably arising from translation from another language. The scales are great for tracking changes though - as long as you use them at the same time every day you can get comparable results. I love the metabolic age feature as it makes me much younger than I actually am! I don't find the segmental part very useful though. It's possible to swop between kgs and stones and pounds but awkward and you have to switch it off in between. If you set it on imperial measurements it gives very strange readings for body fat etc, so it's best to just get used to kgs and live with it. Generally, great fun to play around with and I'm pleased with them.
