Excellent actors and delightful soundtrack music written by Miklos Rozsa. It is a great pity that Billy Wilder's excellent piece was butchered by a third which interrupts the flow of the story. The blu ray edition has a very thorough 51 page booklet which was most illuminating and interesting.
Don't expect a 'serious' Holmes movie. This is more of an affectionate pastiche. Baker St never looked more beautiful on screen, and it's a pity more wasn't made of such a wonderful set. With his wavy hair and nasal drawl, Robert Stephens' Holmes is more akin to Oscar Wilde than the great detective. Colin Blakely is a rather excitable Dr Watson. It's left to Christopher Lee to give the best performance in the film as Holmes' brother, Mycroft. Picture quality on blu ray is glorious. Highly recommended.
