Well built yarn cake winder
I purchased this yarn cake/ball winder at Christmas for my wife. I read a lot of good reviews on it and it cost a little more than others but I liked that it wound a larger 10oz cake. I wanted my wife to have something that would be long lasting and durable with 4 boys at the house and something that she could easily manage and not have to deal with any operability problems. I actually was quite impressed with the way this unit is built. It far exceeded my expectations in quality and operability. It came with one sheet with a few basic instructions and was easy to follow and allowed my wife to quickly be making her yarn cakes. At this point she has a mountain of yarn cakes at the house! It's really nice for her to be able to sit in her chair, set the yarn cake on the table, pull the yarn from the center, and not have her skein rolling around everywhere like she was dealing with before. All I can say is as a man I am impressed with how the winder is built in durability and construction, and my wife loves how it operates and its ease of use. Excellent Yarn Winding Tool

Better value than 'cheaper' units!
Like many in the knitting and crochet community, I have used the less expensive, plastic yarn winding units for many years. Over time these would tangle the yarn, or they could not handle a large skein or yarn, or sometimes the yarn would go under the base, and get caught in the mechanism. Finally, when I needed still another new unit, I did some research, and decided to try this winder, and I could not be happier! It is quiet, efficient, and I can wind a much larger quantity than ever before! Plus, because the base is made of heavy steel, I know that this will last me for the rest of my life! Better than U-Nitt
I bought a winder like this called U-Knitt or something like that, and it clanked and made noise as it pushed against a screw, so I sent it back. I bought an original Stanwood, and just love it. It is really quiet, just a little noise, but not enough to bother you at all. You have to have a side winder to get this not to tangle or hold it up yourself, like I do. You get what you pay for!
I am always winding yarn and this winder is the best buy I have made. It works effortlessly, can handle larger hanks of yarn, and is certainly worth the money. I have been using a plastic type of balls dear that wobbles to create the ball..it is so difficult to wind wit continually watching and arranging! Best Ball Winder
This winder is the best quality you can buy. I tried a cheaper one but had to send it back. It's more expensive, but you get what you pay for. All ball-winders work a little more stiffly as the ball gets larger, but at least this one doesn't act or feel like it's going to break down or grind to a halt before you're finished winding.
