Good inkjet for printing on printable cds.

I bought this printer new, in-the-box to replace a Canon iP7220. The Epson R280 works much better for my use. It feeds the cd into the printer easily while the Canon would often spit the cd back out and after awhile I'd need to reset it using a method I found online. After resetting the Canon 6-7 times I could no longer reset it so it became unusable. I don't use the Epson for printing on paper because I use a pigment ink printer for that. One warning: always make sure you shake the ink a bit before you install it so that the printer recognizes it easily. The R280 is a good cd printer if you need an ink jet for that and can find. Look for the best deals, of course.

Eason Stylus Photo R280 HD printer. Purchase at your own risk.

Used to be a good value. Recent software updates have made it useless for printing PVC media. Fortunately I had an old computer with software I had installed for my old R280 which allowed me to print using PVC tray. The only reason I purchased a new R280 is because I downloaded R280 install software and my old printer flashed all three lights and would not print on the PVC tray. I tried everything, reinstalled software, replaced ink, new PVC tray but nothing. Finally purchased a new R280 and guess what. It did the same exact thing my old R280 did. So now I’ve spent $300.00 for a printer I didn’t need. And to top it off, the ink that came with the printer had leaked making the ink useless. Very unhappy with Epson and will probably purchase Cannon printers for my PVC printing needs. By the way, the Epson R280 is an excellent product. A shame some nerd programmers had to screw it up. Also, support is clueless to the problem. I had to find a solution on my own.

  • Good quality for photo copying

Did not receive usb cable that the seller promised. This machine makes good photo prints if it's used frequently. Not a great printer for regular printing. I use it primarily to print directly onto CD's and DVD's.

  • Great for making DVD labels dirrect onto DVD. No stick on labels.

I had to replace my the DVD. The quality is excellent and I love this one. I have used this printer because it has great printing and it prints labels directly on your DVD. If I need regular printed papers , this printer has great clear printing. Printers now a days are very cheap but if you want a great printer, this should be your pick.

  • Epson R280...Get one if you can.

First off...I have used this printer to print hundreds of 4x6 cards as well as hundreds of 8.5x11 photos. One of the best inkjet printers I have ever owned. The R380 is the other. All my HP, Canon and Kodak inkjet printers are nowhere near the quality of this printer. I have a CIS installed which has made the printer even better. Straight feed is a HUGE plus.

  • Big Color in a small package

This Epson Stylus Photo R280 has surprisingly good quality in such a small package. In general it is easy to setup. However printing on DVD's is a little more difficult. What most people complain about is the noise. Yes it is a little bit noisy when printing. But it prints really good color. I think the color quality Vs. Price is a very good deal. What i like is that it is just a color printer. Not an all-in-one printer. Usually something suffers when you try to make it do too many different things. So this printer prints photos well, it doesn't scan or make copies, or fax, and that is ok with me.

  • Worked Perfect

The primary reason that people buy the R280 is printing ID cards. Purchase the ID tray and inkjet ID cards. The color and resolution is far better than all but the most expensive regular ID Card Printers. I don't recommend if for printing 1,000 ID cards. It takes too much time. However, if you need a dozen to 100 per year, this printer is way to go.

  • old and used are better than new

I had the same printer which I loved and served me for 20 years and finally reached its end of life. I looked for the same printer everywhere and finally found it on ebay. My original printer was only $30 its replacement costs many times over but still wroth the money.( it took me about half an hour cleaning the inkhead to make it works) hope this one will last another 20 years!

  • My thoughts on the Epson Stylus Photo R280 after 5+ years of use

I have owned 3 or 4 of this printer model. This model has some problem with never being able to recognize the light magenta ink cartridge that comes with it. You have to have another new or working light magenta so the light will go out. I prefer this older model over the Artisan 50 because it has far less security measures meaning I can use my refillable cartridges or CISS without it tripping the ink lights as much. One draw back is when the ink lights come on you will lose your print as opposed to the Artisan 1430 where you can resume after you fix the light problem. It's a really great printer! A waste ink tank is highly recommended if you are going to use refillables or a CISS. I use this printer daily for DVD printing and full page color photos as well as shipping labels. It is very versatile!

  • Reliable, solid legacy printer from Epson

I replaced an existing older R280 that no longer would feed paper properly; this was just the ticket. So glad there are still a few of these left. This is essentially the same machine as the Artisan 50. Other than the name change, no discernible difference. You can get generic inks for these now as well. (I use a CSS system for this, as we do a LOT of printing with these printers.) If you're looking for an affordable printer that prints everything from basic B&W drafts to beautiful full color prints (on High Gloss Photo paper), this is for you. I have color prints done on this printer on display in my home. Now that Epson no longer makes these "New", you can find cheap, fully functional after-market inks online for a fraction of what new ones cost.
