great 'flashback' entertainment movie offering an escape from todays nightmare dystopian world!
i remember this movie from when i was a youngster. a friend said to me that this movie (like so many others) has many similarities to what is really going on in the world today. i was curious so i bought a dvd copy to watch the movie again after 40+ years and i wasn't disappointed! my friend was right, potentially there were references made to various contentious talking points regarding todays world (domed city, total control, the hidden hand, fake constructs, euthanasia (genocide), eighth monkey syndrome, ice walls, to name a few). i also enjoyed watching the directors commentary at the end of the movie. all in all this movie was great entertainment and it offered an escape from the dystopian nightmare world that we live in today.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Futuristic story
Entertaining futuristic story set in a time where humans are placed in smart cities run by an artificial intelligence. (in order to escape the consequences of overpopulation and pollution to the planet.) All their human needs are met, however the rules are that when one reaches 30 they have to report for carousel. Another rule is that when one human dies another replaces them in order to maintain a balance. It is not stated if individuals are cloned (Hence their renewal) or just share the sames name such as Francis 7 or Jessica 6. People have no knowledge or interest in their past. Rewarding futuristic movie
Heading the cast are Michael York and Richard Jordan, two members of a security guard force which supervises the life of a domed-in hedonistic civilization all comprised of persons under the age of 30; after that, the civilization’s tribal rules call for a ceremony called ‘renewal’, though nobody’s quite sure what that entails. York, intrigued and abetted by Jenny Agutter, decides to flee, with Jordan. Peter Ustinov is featured as a withered old man living alone on the outside, in the ruins of Washington, DC.
