'ROUND MIDNIGHT is the moving story of an expatriate black jazz musician and his struggle to create the bebop sound in 1959 Paris. Dexter Gordon is sensational in the lead role--he earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Dale Turner--and Herbie Hancock, who appears in the film, was nominated for his score. Director Bertrand Tavernier beautifully captures the many joys and sorrows that encompass the jazz world.

    Superlative - Best movie made about Jazz!

    The music in the movie was recorded live. In "Round Midnight," the music happens as I hear it, played by Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock and other Jazz masters such as Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson, Ron Carter and Billy Higgins - and Lonette McKee on vocals. If I have to explain how these sessions recorded in the movie impact those of us who perform and listen to Jazz - you would not understand.

    DVD in great shape as promised. This rare film is not available on Blu Ray unfortunately. Heart felt story of an aging and world famous jazz saxophonists at the end of the line. Superb all star jazz musicians are featured in the band. Great film.
