Directed by Anthony Asquith, the silent melodrama and thriller A COTTAGE ON DARTMOOR explores the disturbing aspects of jealousy and crimes of passion. The movie narrates the story of Joe (Ugo Henning), a barber consumed by his passion for his girlfriend Sally (Nora Baring), a manicurist. When Sally ends up paying too much attention to one of her customers, Harry (Hans Schettow), the intensity of JoeÆs obsession pushes him to slit the man's throat. The barber is then sent to Dartmoor prison for a lengthy jail term but manages to escape.

  • A well made little thriller which a lot of younger people might enjoy.

    Wasn't too sure whether I would really enjoy watching a silent film but it is really quite gripping and a refreshing change from some of the filthy-mouthed garbage they churn out nowadays. I am a 90 year old greatgrandad and, yes, we had the best times.
