  • Modern Times Are Sexy and Depressing

Great story and characters aside, I feel that the movie is not really about boredom or sexuality, but instead what causes it. This is constantly showcased by the husband character, which is very cheerful at the beginning, but slowly turns into depression and despair as his business is torn apart by a Modern phenomenon: the increasing volatility of the market due to innovation. In other words, All Things Fair may show a strong existential philosophy. I think that a lot of the value of this movie comes from a seamless matching of passion and hopelessness, vertigo and staleness, love and indifference, a kind of existential doom that spelled irony and absurdity in the minds of modern people at the beginning of the 20th century. This is one of my favorite movies. I absolutely loved it!
