In this classic sports saga, Mario and friends take to the field in Mario Super Sluggers for the Nintendo Wii. The game blends interactive baseball action with over 40 characters to unlock, including Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Wario, and countless elements from across the popular franchise. This Wii game is very similar to the GameCube Mario Superstar baseball games. It emphasizes simplicity and gameplay features. Simply swing the motion remote to smack a home run or use a pitching motion to strike out your opponent. As with any other Wii game in the Mario series, Mario Super Sluggers can be played on either the Nintendo Wii or Wii U, and although the release date was back in 2008, this is a game that never gets old. There are nine stadiums to work through, and most of them have small surprises and gimmicks along the way. If you want to go through a round without any extra features, Mario Stadium is the way to go for a regular video game simulation. The Challenge Mode allows you to play through a series of challenges and games to unlock more characters and go through an in-depth story mode with even more stages and players to unlock. Each classic Nintendo team captain has special abilities and their own stadium in this part of the game. For example, Mario can talk to plant life and use warp pipes, Peach can interact with stumps to make others appear, Yoshi can use manholes to reach other areas, Wario can use his magnet to pick up metal things, and Donkey Kong can climb vines and smash wooden barrels.With possibilities to connect up to four Wii controllers, you and all of your friends can fight for baseball supremacy in a standard game of Mario Super Sluggers or through nine mini-games with multiple players. The mini-games include the home run contest, Wall Ball, Piranha Panic, or Barrel Basher. If you are playing by yourself, the single-player adventure mode takes you through the entire Baseball Kingdom. You can confront heaps of challenges and unlock new Super Mario characters that you can use in any mode such as Peach, Wario, Luigi, Bowser Jr, Yoshi, or Bowser. Counting the alternate players, Mario Super Sluggers has the more friends from which to choose than any other in the Mario franchise as it has up to 71 playable options. As far as sports games go, Mario Super Sluggers does not disappoint. Whether you are a fan of baseball or you have never even played a sports game in your life, you can have a lot of fun with this Wii sports activity. The whole family can join in the fun. One of the most re-playable Wii games ever
Gameplay can be simple or complex. Been playing with my now 11 year old since she was 6; we just keep adjusting to make it challenging and fair in both 1p and 2p modes. The story mode has fun puzzles that unlock characters and ballparks. We've been playing for years and have not found any bugs. If you want realism, look elsewhere, but it's a fun game and has taught my kids a lot about *real* baseball. Doesn't work.
When I got the game, I was excited to play it. However when I put it in my wii, it didn't work at all. It had a ring to it which makes it unplayable. I was told that they check every game for stuff like this, but how in the heck did they miss that?
