  • A noticeable improvement if work machine is a laptop

The Cinema Display is an outstanding monitor. I use it with my 2009 MacBook Pro to get a little more screen real estate. The picture is crisp, and the colors are vibrant. It has a MacSafe connector to keep your laptop charged, freeing up the laptop's connector to use on the road. The speakers are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. After a few hours of use, it will get a little warm under the bottom of the screen, but not too hot to touch. The screen tilt adjusts very easily and is a lot better than my previous monitor, which only offered a software solution to adjust the viewing angle. Some complain that the monitor is too bright and that the glossy finish reflects too much light, but my workspace faces the window, so it's not an issue. If you are used to a dull monitor, you will definitely notice the difference though. The only drawback for me is the fact that the monitor has to stay plugged into the laptop in order to work, which, over time, shortens the life of the battery. Other than that, it's a pretty good deal.

  • Works real good gives same display as my iMac 2560x1440

I got this because we had a 2010 A1311 21.5" iMac die. She got my 2011 27" iMac and I wanted a bigger display, because come on, going from 27" to 15" on a 2011 Macbook Pro is well...bigger is better. This display, since I do NOT have anything except the 12,1 iMac with Thunderbolt, is the only one I could use unless I went to a regular monitor, but then no camera, no speakers, no microphone. I looked and looked and when I saw this, for $399, shipped for free, I got it. It gives me the same experience I had with the iMac. Now the A1347 mid-2010 Mac Mini w/8GB RAM is a little slower I replaced the slow harddrive with a 1TB Mushkin REACTOR SSD. And it is a lot faster. So as a "almost" like for like replacement of my iMac that my wife now uses, this monitor fits the bill. IF you have something what has a mini-Display port and NOT Thunderbolt, then you need to get one of these. And of course, anytime buying off eBay, and it's used, IF YOU CAN, get the Squaretrade Warranty on it too. I did and IF something goes screwy on it (for the next 2 years) then it will BE FIXED (which Apple does NOT make these anymore) or REPLACED with LIKE-FOR-LIKE. So it's worth the extra when buying used online.

  • Still the best monitor out there.

The Apple Cinema Display or its Thunderbolt cousin are by far still be best quality monitor you can get. The color saturation, the contrast, the white balance are all superior to what competitors offer. You just cant beat these older Apple displays! To top it off, you also get a built in mic, camera, speakers, and 3 USB connections. The Thunderbolt display comes with even more connectivity!

  • Still worth it

Paid 200 for it early 2020 and works great when I’m editing HD Videos and graphic design. It works with a computer with a thunderbolt or mini display port and usb-a. Otherwise you’d need adapters to work with today’s MacBook pros for example that require usb-c for all ports. My MacBook Pro was 2009 and MacBook Air from 2017 so it didn’t really need adapters except the MagSafe for the air. Quality of the screen was better than both my laptops though! Works seamlessly with mac.

  • Won't work unless you have a Thunderbolt port!!!!!!

I'm a Mac person, but I purchased this to connect to my work's HP laptop (with the assumption it would work with it). It does not. The HP laptop does have Type C, USB port (that looks and feels like a Thunberbolt port), BUT WILL NOT WORK, no matter what adapters you try. You MUST have a Thunderbolt port on your PC computer to even attempt to think about figuring our how to make it work with a PC. I gave up trying to make it work with the HP laptop and connected it to my iMac, and works perfectly!

  • Beautiful display, size and features

Great monitor; works as described. Need to fiddle with which type of adapter you need depending on which model you get but definitely worth saving thousands on a new one IMO. Hoping it continues to work w/ no issues for a long while but it is already pretty old. Fingers crossed.

  • Saved my monitor from the landfill!

This cable saved my old A1316 Apple LED Cinema Display. The old cable was shorting out -- it wouldn't reliably connect with any of my family's laptops. There are tons of replacements for the "thunderbolt" version, but I couldn't find *any* for the older USB/mini-displayport version. This one did the trick! It wasn't effortless to install. It took about an hour total to disassemble and reassemble the monitor.

  • Brilliant Display let down by bad connector design

I will begin by confessing that I am an apple fanboy. That's all the disclaimer you get. I have this display and the Dell 27" that shares the same panel. The LED's on the apple make the image more brilliant and appear more vibrant. Both are great displays. There is one major, catastrophic flaw with these... the thunderbolt connector. After the initial launch shenanigans which resulted in a firmware update, the displays mostly worked as advertised. As time goes on however, the chips inside of the thunderbolt cables tend to succumb to heat damage. While it is an easy enough fix to replace the octopus cable from inside the display, we really shouldn't have to. The new generation thunderbolt cables are less susceptible to heat degradation and will supposedly last longer. The jury is still out. Anyway, if you are thinking of getting one, you should. The display is very nice and now that they are selling for more reasonable prices used, they are a good value.

  • An Absolute Perfect Monitor!!

The monitor is so good, I have two of them. One is connected to MacBook Pro and the other to two PC's through a KVM switch. The one connected to my PC actually can use the builtin camera as well. On my MacBook it is a dream. I bought two of them because this is the last Apple monitor that uses Mini DisplayPort connection so you can use it on a Apple machine or PC, Thunderbolt Monitors give you limitations. They are beautiful to look at and use and probably will never part ways with these two gems.
