3 Count Bout is a 2D wrestling game with a cast of ten oddball characters, each with an array of striking, grappling, and charging moves. Many of the characters are patterned after real wrestlers working in the Japanese wrestling circuits at the time, even sharing their trademark moves. Red Dragon, for example, resembles the Great Muta, and he also has the special green mist attack. <br><br>There is only one single-player mode: the Championship Mode. Players must guide their chosen wrestlers through a series of matches, winning and earning cash along the way. The matches are played in wrestling rings, and a three-count pinfall or submission wins the match. Occasionally players must also engage in a street-wrestling match. These matches take place in warehouses littered with potential weaponry. <br><br>Wrestlers can pick up crates and throw them at each other, or even pick up and use baseball bats and tasers. In the street matches, the wrestler who beats his opponent enough so that he cannot get off the ground for ten counts wins. If there are two players, they can opt to fight each other in a singles match or tag team against a CPU-controlled pair of wrestlers.<br><br>The game uses a control system not unlike those of some fighting games. There are buttons for punching, kicking, jumping and pinning. When the characters lock in a grapple, the system changes. A horizontal bar appears at the bottom of the screen, with one part red and the other part blue (corresponding to the two wrestlers in the grapple). Players have a second or so to tap the buttons to make their part of the bar larger. After that, players input their chosen grapple move and the CPU determines which move takes precedence. <br><br>The game itself offers control hints to players during the match. At appropriate times, messages like "Press A to grab opponent!" or "Press D to pin opponent!" will flash across the screen. Whenever players are in situations when they need to be wiggling the joystick or tapping the buttons, an appropriate icon is displayed in the lower portion of the screen.Product Identifiers
