The Real Maigret
Remember Maigret from original 1960's BBC TV. Recently on Talking Pictures TV after about 60 years' absence. Delighted to own what appears to be complete series. Rupert Davies is the real Maigret and Ewen Solon the real Lucas! Only caveat: discs numbered but not labelled with contents and no accompanying information. Poor picture quality recorded off another screen of which you can see dirt and movement, otherwise it recalled childhood memories of seeing this originally on the BBC, sadly spoilt by the amateur reproduction. Highly entertaining. Good acting, and a slice of yesteryear. Neatly packaged and presented to a high standard. George Siminon was a superlative storyteller and his tales are acted out with skill and humour. Rupert Davis was the perfect choice for this role. Siminon himself said he was the best Maigrait he'd seen. Obviously, there have been later versions. The best being Michael Gambon but for me Davis is the best.
